While the band refuses to say that it has broken up, Cave In recently confirmed that members of the band are "focused on different things" and that there are no plans to record or tour for the immediate future. The band posted this:

Cave In's members are all presently living in different places and focused on different things. When you're together for over ten years you tend to want to stretch without each other. We are still brothers and continue to support each other in all our musical endeavors. I don't know when or how but we will cross paths again.

The band released Perfect Pitch Black in 2005.
