Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is set to join the cast of the musical American Idiot for an extended run next year. The singer / guitarist will play the drug dealer St. Jimmy for 50 performances starting on January 1st. He takes over for the actor Tony Vincent, who will end his stint on December 30th. Armstrong previously portrayed the character for eight performances in September ahead of Green Day's most recent tour. He will appear with the broadway performance in three stints, from January 1st through the 9th, from the 18th through the 30th and from February 10th through the 27th.
American Idiot: The Broadway Musical is directed by Michael Mayer with musical arrangements by Tom Kitt. It was co-written by Armstrong and Mayer and (of course) based on the band's 2004 full length concept album American Idiot. The production is staged at New York's St. James Theatre.
