I just came from the record store in the mall where I noticed that their stock of this particular cd was nearly depleted; and I thought to myself, "That's great.", because this is a great album that fully deserves to be successful.
Dashboard Confessional is Chris Carraba, and his acoustic guitar. A few tracks on this album add bass and drums in, but the majority of the material is just Chris and his guitar. His second album in six months (and Vagrant records debut), "The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" is an album full of raw emotion captured in his lyrics and songs. Prior to Dashboard Confessional, Chris served as the lead singer for hardcore band Further Seems Forever (on Tooth and Nail), and currently is the much tattooed administrator of an elementary school. Interesting.
He has been compared to the likes of Johnny Cash, and Jawbreaker - I'll add another name to the list and compare him to Bob Dylan. Though he lacks the displeasingly nasal Dylan voice, DBC's acoustic songwriting can be likened to that of Dylan: The elaborate storytelling, pouring his heart out to the listener, and bare bones acoustic accompaniment are all Dylan-esque. Only better.
Every track on this cd is great but my favorites are "The Brilliant Dance" and "This Ruined Puzzle". Both these songs are great and I never tire of them as I've listened to the daily for over a week. Though, admittedly, the acoustic style did take me a while to get used to, once you get over it this disc gets better and better with each listen. It's an amazing powerful cd, full of raw emotion and great songwriting: rare in todays age of boy bands and fake punkers. It has hardly left my cd player in the last week and a half. Go buy it, there's only a few copies left....

worst review ever. luv them umm there is a huge gaping diffrence between punk and pre pubesent whining Punk? This is supposed to be punk? What the fuck? They are pop faggots I like Dashboard as well. I really love Dashboard. Q. How many emo kids does it take to change a lightbulb? Fuckin' gooooooooood album ! how is this a perfect album? this is why websites should be moderated for idiocy. i love this album ive been listening to it for a while its really good... again i go unnoticed is the best track its so upbeat and fast i think its great Dashboard confessional ruleezzzz ! swiss army romance was better, but this is pretty damn good in its own right. i like the full band sound a lot. kay, this cd isnt punk, its emo. but this is one of the best emo bands i*ve heard. dashboard confessional is my favorite band, i like their so impossible ep better than this cd though. but this cd is still very very good. and to all of you who dont like it, then ur missing out on something great. this cd relee helped me through some hard times, becuz i can relate to the songs relee good. chris writes such good lyrics. but thats just what i think, and what do i know. i can listen to emo and punk, i guess im not punk enough for you guys then. fuckin awesome album, DBC rules!! hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! a dump on a dashboard. absolutely genius. If punk isn't a sound, then Woody Guthrie invented punk way back in the late 30's. He played an acoustic and hated the government. What the fuck is Dashboard Confessional? I think the confession is that Carrabba took a dump on a dashboard and called it music. How can someone listen to this and not be retarded. basically the same song over and over again coming from a guy screaming "no one loves me". bullshit. he has a nice voice but damn man sing about something else for 1 or 2 songs. boring Uh. Yeah. Well, I'm glad someone likes this. Just not my style. rush limbaugh is a fucking nazi. and fuck america or any other country for that matter. im concerned about the well being of everyone not just those of a specific counrty. rush limbaugh is really concerned about our country. the rich white sect of america that is. and im sorry, i've never seen punk as a conservative force. as far as im concerned, punk is the complete opposite of conservatism. so am i gonna blast someone for their conservative beliefs? yeah. im sick of people who try to twist punk into something its not. i guess i can call nsync punk because they are just havin fun and doin what they want. jesus christ, its getting ridiculous. maybe i should try and legalize slavery because it's "totally against the grain" or whatever. fuck off idiots. Honestly, I've never even looked at the album credits or even heard this cd. I've heard probably 1 or 2 of his songs and just made up the conservative shit. So take a joke. I'm all about being open minded but I also like a good laugh. And you have to admit that those comments stirred things up. I had no idea he was christian and couldn't care less. So lighten up and have fun you damned jesus-lovers! oh i get it... if a guy thanks God in his album credits, his album is conservative propaganda... riiight... im so glad everyone is so tolerant of other peoples view points... "Punk rock is about entertaining and having fun your own way." stop posting books of stuff that nobody is reading. this album is very very dumbed down from his last one. the lyrics make me sick cause they are so juvenile. i like chris, he is a real nice guy and i think he's got a nice voice and an ok ear for music, but this album is lyrically a crime and really shouldn't have been made. on a side note, mike marsh is a really good drummer. well said my friend. i read the comments you made about dashboard after i stated that "you're not funny", so that's why it may have sounded hypocritical. I really don't take review records very seriously. I just sit down, type it all out at once, and when I'm done I'm done. no editing, no erasing, i just type for fun. by the way, i'd love to see that video. by the way again, go read my Jets to Brazil reviews if you want some entertainment. most people found them really funny, i think. i hopei have cleared things up a little. Dear fathead, ok, you guys made me laugh with those last two posts. the indigo girls!Ha! conservative propagandha?HA! I think the main influence for this CD was Melissa Etherage or the Indigo Girls. Oh yeah, and this album sounded like someone taught Carson Daily to play the guitar, and then pinched his nuts and told him to sing. And as long as this is considered punk, maybe some of you drones should pick a Simon Garfunkel record and hear some REAL punk rock. I'm gonna go put my pants back on. Where's allison crauss from? I think I live there too, if it's Urbana. Or maybe I don't. Anyway, this cd is conservative propaganda. Pure "jesse helms" evil. Or perhaps the rev jerry falwell. Whatever... From what I understand, this guy belongs to the NRA and sells his own homemade bullets at shows. Why would you want to support a fucker like that? He was on the Rush Limbaugh show. Doesn't that say it all right there? whoa... DBC is like some emo poof, who does not own enough conflict cds. I really liked this cd and i was pretty excited to see him play on the Vagrant Tour. Well this guy put on the fuckin worst set i have ever seen. Weak and short and the guy let the the crowd sing almost all of his songs without him saying a word. He would just kick back and let everyone else do what i came to see him do. I left with a bitter taste in my mouth. i actually stole it(sarah m) from a friend. it's live and acoustic. it's also scratched all to hell so i haven't listened to it in a loooooong time. i prefer the bluegrass singing of Allison Craus(sp). her voice is absolutely beautiful, really, it will melt even the punkest heart.(and she's from my hometown too)- fathead Fathead...this 1 is for your Sarah McClaughlin (sp) cd.....bleh. Her and Tori Amos piss me off. I bet Bjork could kick both of their asses. Heh-heh. I'm personally kinda tired of this dude. Too Radiohead-ish for me. He sounds kinda whiny when he talks too. At Krazyfest he kept saying "come back to my booth after the set and we can talk". Blah,Blah,Blah...he was probably just trying to pick up chicks...more power to him on that note. to music is my life- go to the review section, click on , oh lets say, the H column, scroll on down to my review of H2O, and then scroll on down to the little icon to "View all Reviews". there you will find lot's of the bands i listen to. by the way, i bet you've never seen a musical collection as diverse as mine. I've got everything from soul coughing to rancid, from sarah maclauhclin to krs-one, from bad religion to leftover salmon. my friend refuses to play anything but this dashboard cd, and i will say that i dont hate it as much as i used to, but it still gets really annoying.- fathead I admit it doesn't sound punk, but I think it's pretty punk rock to do something so simple but with amazing lyrics and be successful in the ever growing variety punk genre. Is it punk? It depends on what your definition of punk rock is, but I wish I could write songs like him. Oh people people people...thank you for coming to go together. Fathead, I love you. Even though you can be a big asshole, you stick to your guns. DBC is amazing, though. Further Seems Forever is amazing. Don't you people get sick of listening to the same cd's over and over again? Fathead, it sounds like the only bands you like are NOFX, The Ramones, and Propagandhi...they are good, I agree..in fact, they are BETTER than good...but why don't you broaden your musical horizons? chris is a downright nice guy. but jonah owns him. stop whining about girls...please. Yeah! I just love this cd it's so nice to have stuff you can just chill too that while melodic the singer doesn't feel the need to mutate his voice into the sorta whine that seems to be very popular right now. I bought this album yesterday and when i put it in the CD player in my car..my friend stephanie started crying when she heard the lyrics...I took a listen..I was like damn!! I really like this...DBC knows what he's doing...NO fuckers its not punk....he just has some great punk, emocore credentials. i.e. further seems forever and vacant andys...carabba fits in perfect on the vagrant roster.....get em Kid A is an amazing album. this, on the other hand, is onelinedrawing without the good lyrics and voice. I got an acoustic guitar for my birthday on may fourth. I'm going on tour next week. i've got one guy playing the kazoo, one guy playing the triangle, a homeless man doing beatbox, and a chick with three tits as my dancer. everyone come see us on a street corner near you. Hey Anthony- That guy gave "Kid A" a perfect 10 and uses a lot of references to Freud... that explains a lot. I wouldn't trust a goddamn thing he says. here's a bad one. fathead will soon be converted...first 2 stars...next 5 woops!i will raise the score a little because of the fact that somehow this guy has impressed alot of people with a very simple style of music (like my heros the ramones). props for that. looks like fathead came around, he's giving this album a full score. 5 stars! NOT BAD, NOT BAD....the orginal shithead/dickhead was better... how bout "yermomgavemehead" that was pretty good. props for that cutdown. hahahaha...right on....what do you have to say to that fathead? I don't GET why your name is fathead when clearly it should be dickhead, or shithead.... you're a douchebag. i've listened to every genre of music from bluegrass to rap to hardcore punk rock to techno to just about any other style your little mind can come up with, and i still think this record SUCKS!you are right about one thing, i do not "get" why people like this, i do not "get" why he's so popular, and most of all, i do not "get" why he's on fucking punknews.org. Fathead, you truly just dont understand, so dont try. Just go listen to your skate-punk, and say punk stuff like "fuck the government!" and "skateboards are sweet!" and "happiness is gay!" k buddy? so by your definition, any goddamn band could be considered punk. what about bob dylan? he writes socially stirring lyrics, he plays an acoustic guitar, well fuck, lets post his new album on the release chart. james taylor, punk rocker! how bout jewel, she's punk isn't she? as much as you hate to admit it, punk IS a sound. if we dont keep it loud and proud, then eventually every fucking band on the planet will be calling themselves "punk". amen. this cd is punker than a ton of cd's that are considered punk...blink182, NFG, Saves The Day...Punk isn't a sound. Just cuz the guy plays an acoustic doesnt mean he isnt punk...or good. This cd fucking rules! I Guess things never change. I guess to some people punk is simply a sound. I guess to some people if it doesn't sound punk, it isn't punk. Well I thought this CD fucking rocked and I hope some people see this CD for how amazing it really is. Some people don't get it. HA! thanks man, I needed a good laugh today. i can believe they passed propaghandi...this cd is waaaay better than that new propaghandi shit i cant believe that this review of a folk singer has surrpassed the review of the punkest band on the planet. long live propaghandi, fuck whoever this guy is. i like it. call me not punk, call me whatever the fuck you want. but i like this guy a lot. why does everyone like this?it sounds like something my mom would like. This record is the most annoying peice of crap to be relased this year. C'mon! Better than Dylan? Get a clue! Try popping in some Bright Eyes and you'll see how "emotional" DBC is. This is almost as bland as the new Alkaline Trio record. Music this year (minus Bright Eyes) has been a complete dissapointment. i havent seen abad review for this disc yet... |
