Talk about ahead of your time. Lifetime released this powerful little gem before Saves the Day had their driver's licence. What do ya know, Lifetime breaks up, move on to other things, and some little snots proceed to swipe their sound and hit it big. Enough of that, now to the album.

Plain and simple, punk doesn't get much better. Every song has at least one amazing moment, and for most of them, the amazing moment lasts all 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Headbashing speeds that often slow down to poppier rock songs, then as quickly as they changed first, it's back to the ranting and rockin'. It's all here. Tempo changes to keep you in tune at all times, heartfelt lyrics, a unique, powerful voice, and some very catchy hooks. "Anchor","It's not Funny Anymore", "Irony is for Suckers", "Ostricized",well, I'm not gonna name them all, but you get the idea. This band, along with Jawbreaker, has helped change the face of punk rock. It breaks my hardcore heart to know that neither are around anymore. Before you camp out in line for Saves the Day's new album, buy "Hello Bastards".

But the truth is, this album got me into Lifetime AND Husker Du, so I owe it a lot.

Although this album's great, it's sad that I think the best song is It's Not Funny Anymore..cause it's a Husker Du cover. Lifetime do it pretty awesomely though

It's really hard for me to pick a favorite Lifetime album but Hello Bastards is really good.

Alright, jsut for the record, if you're a true music fan you would be beyond the whole name calling and copy cat thing. These artists put out this music for us (the fans), if you like it then you like and if you don't then you don't. STD is clearly not riding the coat-tails of this band, ya 'Can't Slow Down' sounds very similar but, like others have stated before it only takes one band to revolutionize a genre or specific sound. If "Lifetime" were so revolutionary compared to STD than why did they break up? Just enjoy the music for what it is thats what the artists would of wanted us too, all this type of music hits people in different ways. Personally I like both bands jsut as much for different reasons. I was recently at a Saves show, and it blew me away. So everyone can just stop being dumb and complaining about bands and music and just enjoy it for what it is, that's why the music was made in the first place.

Awesome album. Along with "Ass Cobra" and "Destroy Oh! Boy" -two very dissimlar albums with this one, if you ask me-, this is the best more or less straight punk album of the 90's, not Rancid, Offspring or Green Day. Pure emotional punk rock.
I don't know if they call it emo or anything else, but it do acomplishes in creating a moving mood.
The best here is "The Gym is neutral Territory", a masterpiece of song.
Their next album, Jersey's, is filled with more generic punk pop, but the song "Theme Song for a new basement...", just blows me away; what a fucking brilliant song. If a band like AFI only had a song of this caliber, i'll show my respects to them instead of dismiss them as Uninspired MTV punk.

PD: A masterpiece of album, nuff said.

Amazing album. Review lacks only because it spends more time bashing Saves the Day for being a copycat band than it does actually explaining why this is awesome.

Goodness this is a nice record. It reminds me of a mixture of Jawbreaker and Gorilla Biscuits (Both, key bands)...Jawbiscuits. This is, without a doubt, their best release (In my opinion). So many classics, and a nice Husker Du cover. How can you go wrong?

I think we should all re-iterate how great Lifetime were.

I loved Boxer, yeah they sounded like Lifetime, but come on, they were a million times better than STD.

    My Score:

How come no one ever compares Boxer to Lifetime. At least Saves the Day moved on.

    My Score:

ya know, saves the day used to sound like lifetime, but i dont think they do now, personally i think theyve brought the genre further, but if lifetime were still around, MAN! can you imagine how HUGE they would be now?
I was at a saves the day and people in the audience kept yelling "Lifetime!" and the singer yelled backed at them. Needless to say they are sick of the references.
I mean, truthfully, every once in a while you get a band who changes a style or introduces a new one, but all the others are just copying older bands, so its not really smart ot single out STD like that.
(personally, i think a better example of ripping off other bands would be Pennywise and Offspring blatantly ripping off of Bad Religion, and some of Offspring's stuff being Nirvana rips. Have you noticed they have one song on almost every album that rips off of Come As You Are?)

yaeh, they dont sound that much alike. i just get a kick by making fun of boy bands.

    My Score:

yah, lifetime is a good band, and this cd is great, but in your reference to saves the day, i like them a whole lot better, and personally, i think that the singer of saves the day sounds better. but thats just my opinion. and the two bands dont even sound that much alike
