I saw a review for Earth AD and figured that there were probably more on the next page - so I clicked on over, and to my surprise there were none. Now, I began to wonder why there can be countless Sum 41 and Blink 182 reviews but only 1 from one of the most influential punk bands in history, but then I remembered the mentality of most of the users on this site and immediately understood. So, it was about that time I began rummaging through my Misfits archives and pulled out all of their records, tapes, and CD's that I had in my possession - and this was the only one (other than the coffin set) that has always stood out in my head as genius material. First off, it's Danzig at his finest - full of energy, young, and sadistic - yet, for some reason, it's the only CD that wasn't covered in the Coffin Set (which was pretty much the epitome of all Misfits collections) and is pretty much ignored by most punk fans these days. So, after pulling it off the rack, I popped it in my CD player and immediately began listening to the opener "20 Eyes" and instantly remembered why I loved this band so much. It's fast, totally unpolished, and has the gritty sense of humor that seems to be lacking in most of their newer records (obviously due to Danzig's absence). So, after that track ends, I'm totally pumped up and continue to feel rushes of adrenaline through "All Hell Breaks Loose," one of my all-time favorites "Nike A Go Go," and "Skulls," which easily takes the cake as their best song of the early 80's era. Even after they've reached their pinnacle, it doesn't slow down, get boring, or even let your attention drift away for the slightest moment - and that is why this is such the great record it is, and will always be. Hopefully more people will realize this and take interest in the band, and if not, it's their loss - not acknowledging one of New Jersey's most talented bands is pretty stupid though. Please login or register to post comments. Skulls, Hatebreeder, and Night Of The Living Dead = best Misfits songs EVER This is the best Misfits album. I love it. misfits influence a lot of bands and yeah afi it goes without saying but afi has earn their way. I got to agree with tempist "As for AFI, they owe an incredible debt to the influence of the Misfits" but anyways we're here to review The Misfits. Misfits will always kick ass. whoa whoa whoa whoaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh In my opinion, this is the "classic" Misfits album. I believe that it was the first Misfits LP to be released on CD format in the late 80s. It was my first introduction to the Misfits... other than the covers by Metallica on the Garage Days Revisited EP. Some would argue that Static Age is the best Misfits album, but I think the selection of songs on Walk Among Us is better. True, Static Age is more raw and Walk Among Us is more refined, but I personally like the more produced sound. I agree that Glen Danzig has more passion on some of the alternate versions of the songs from the Collection CDs, but his voice is much more melodic on this album... though not as hypnotizing as his later Samhain and solo stuff. This is true Misfits punk !! This is before they basically invented the Thrash Metal sound on Earth A.D. (I'm not dissing. I luv the more brooding Misfits sound, but just not as much as I luv the more melodic Misfits songs) These guys are why I luv punk and goth !! (monsters, muscle, and great songs you can both dance and slam too) Whats not to like ?? Misfits rock !! Thanks Jerry Only for keeping the Misfits legacy alive. Two recommendations: 1. Go out and buy this CD if you don't already have it (I think its the only album with "All Hell Breaks Loose"). 2. Go see a Misfits concert (I just saw them again on Halloween here in Philadelphia at the Trocadero - just remember that Mr. Danzig is doing his own stuff now). great fuckin album every song is so good and night of the living dead, hatebreeders.... all of them stand out MisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsM isfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMis fitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfi tsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfits MisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfitsMisfits whoa...I just realized i wuz wearing a misfits shirt when I wuz writing my last review 'bout these guys...cool.. This is the first Misfits CD I ever heard.....and it fucking rocked....good punk at it's best...n e one who thinks The Misfits sucks will might as well castrate themselves. Yeah, this is one of the top TEN punk rock albums ever. the other Misfit albums are second to this one and this is my humble opinion why: The best album ever. Terrible review of an amazing album... Do you think we really care about how you found out that there were hardly any reviews of the Misfits. Good thing you managed to squeeze out two sentences of actual review in an already short review... As for the actual album, while it doesn't quite measure up to the genius of Static Age it definately comes close. The Misfits were an eclectic mixture of 50's era rock and Ramones-esque bubblegum pop flavored with a humorous take on B-movie horror flicks. Their music was driving, catchy punk rock at its finest. As for AFI, they owe an incredible debt to the influence of the Misfits, along with their more obvious connection to the Offspring. Who's AFI? not to ruin ur black parade afi doesnt sound liek anything like misfits just because they cover there songs doesnt mean they ripped them off AFI worked there asss es of to get where they r How could this not be awesome its the fucking misfits with danzig. not much music can compare to the fun you have listening to them with their dark sense of humor and songs about horror movies. some of the best hardcore punk around. this an awesome album but i like static age better. My favorite album of all time. love this band. fucking awesome record. go glenn go! Though i havnt heard it i bet it rocks, their rough tunes, their lyrics r0c, but one of my favorites Albums are Famous Monsters - That one rock Arse screw this man. nfg for life! my friends over you! Psssh. I can't believe these guys ripped off AFI. just get the damned box set. its about 60 bux but u get 6 cd's worth of music. static age, earth ad,evilive, collections 1 and 2 adn a bunch of alternate versions. oh yea adn i said the thing about afi, its not that i'm saying everyone should love afi, i'm just making a point to the younger people who puruse this site that think blink 182 invented punk rock. whether its too primitive for you, or new shit is too polished you got to give respect to these guys. i mean listen to the song 'astro zombies' and tell me that shit still isnt gold. These guys aren't punk enough for me. Give me something really hardcore like Simple Plan who sing about things that really matter. WITHOUT MISFITS THEIR WOULD BE NO AFI.Oh wouldnt the worl be a much better place without AFI. Although I do enjoy the Misfits.-BostonMusicGuy as far as i'm concerned this is THE misfits album to own. genius. There's a lot of songs from the 2 collections, but these are different versions that sound 5234535 times better. I'd bet my last red cent that most of these "punk" fans who watch TRL and listen to mainstream radio have probably never heard of these guys. Does this album have alot of the songs that are on collection 1 and 2? I'm not a huge Misfits fan, but I respect what they're talent and whatnot. It's shitty that there are actually people out there who are more familiar with the new stuff than this. I popped this CD in for a friend once who sports Misfits shirts all the time(and probably had one on while we were listening), and didn't know who this was. Isn't that some bullshit. Primitve and raw is better. No techinical shit, just straight up emotion and creativity. Two things that many bands (past & present) are sorely lacking. the misfits are not overated. they were original at the time and groundbreaking. the only rreason people talk shit now is cuz it sounds so primitive. so do the stooges and most every other old ass punk band. but in their 6 years of existance they created a great raw punk sound with elements of horror and metal. to all the hot topic punks hear, let me put it to u this way WITHOUT MISFITS THEIR WOULD BE NO AFI. THEY ARE DAVEY'S BIGGEST INFLUENCE. GO BUY THE BOX SET NOW. Not as good as the upcoming Deminer cd. You're thinking of Earth AD...all the songs sound similar on that one...but they all rock. isn't earth AD the one they got kind of metal? Which one has death comes ripping on it? Cause besides that song, it blows. I might be thinking of a different record though. the last coffin set disc is the gold one. I wasn't aware this wasn't covered in that set. Post-danzig is a joke. the album rules but i think earth AD is the best 'fits album Great album. The clearer production and all those whooooooa's really make it a classic. 8 words: This is one of the best albums by the band. Songs like "Skulls" are abosolute classics. Great album, I'm kind of out of my "Misfits stage" though, meaning that I listened to them so much that I started to be bored with them. Misfits are great, but this album is Overrated. i love it. the only misfits album i enjoy. 8/10. Best 'fits album...way way better than anything post-danzig. - bigjerk misfits are lame and extremely over rated... Best Misfits album. More fun than a barrel full of monkeys. |
