Hey, fucks, it's the Ramones. One could argue that they play Beach Boys-esque 60s rock and win. Their influences are firmly rooted in the British Invasion and before. On this, their first album, they play old fashioned rock/pop with cranked distortion and plenty of speed. Joey Ramone sings in a mock-British accent, Johnny's guitar is a fucking buzzsaw, Dee Dee perfectly follows the beats, and Tommy supplys them aptly. They invent horror rock on songs like "Chainsaw", and songs like the closer "Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World" show them being politically un-PC before Johnny Rotten had been wailing that he wanted a holiday in the sun... This is the "new" rock. If only every group they spawned had been as great or original as them, the punk scene might be a lot bigger and less isolationist. Please login or register to post comments. Y eah I was never a big fan of the ramones now or then... but you know they do have some good songs... I just can't by the poppy sound that I hear when I hear them... but I guess that is just me.... fuck it and fuck my opinion "dude these guys fucking blow. i have no idea why everyone liked them so much. i guess because they were a local band where i lived that actually was going somewhere..... maybe they were moving out of the shitter into the actual septic tank with all the other shit bands that all sound the same. these guys are scene fags and the guy who managed them in the getgo...yea you know who you are L, is a total cuntrag. the guy is a fucking idiot. hes like 47 who gets with 15 year old girls. that guys sounds like a real winner. anyways these guys blow ass and make even shitty bands such as the clash, the damned, etc sound like nothing i've ever heard before. but seriously, for those of you who enjoy whatever the fuck this is, have fun listening to it while you jerk off and write in your live journal." To the chickensh*it Good Charlott fan; LMAO! You like Good Charlotte better than the Ramones? HAHAHA!! Oh my god, yeah, it doesn't get more punk than that! Dude, you need to listen to this record again, and I mean REALLY listen, the tunes are catchy, the lyrics rule, and anyone can play this songs, not in the same way as the Ramones, but still.. it's great! Hey Ho! Let's Go! You can't go wrong. Musically this CD is a bit lacking. The Ramones early stuff is all so poppy. The reason this earns a 10 is because of the tremendous influence this album had on punk rock as a whole. If there had been no Ramones...well fuck, none of us would have probably ever gotten into punk...it probably wouldn't even exist (at least not in nearly the same way it exists today). For sheer sound, I would give this a 7, but because of its amazing influence (which deserves about a 100, but the scale won't go that high), I have no choice but to give this album a 10/10. AMAZING! FUCKING AMAZING! perfection Just because you were the first doesn't mean you were the best, almost anything put today, if it were put out side by side with this would blow it away. This is a great record by one of the best bands of all time. This is one of their best because it is with all of the original members. Dee Dee, Tommy, Joey, and Johnny. Every song on this album are great. I highly suggest to pick it up if you like The Ramones or dont really know a lot about them this is a great way to get into them. rocket to russia is the worst one outta the first 4 albums A perfect score for this? No way. Rocket To Russia is a perfect album, and arguing with that is like arguing with an old fuckin smelly banana that your mom just won't throw out because she's too fat and addicted to percocet. Although not to take away from the Ramen's first amazing album which came out in god damned 1976!! FOR CHRISTS SAKE! Nineteen Flippity Sticks! This is the first real honest to goodness punk rock album. Full of simple, nasty, catchy little tunes drenched in as much melody as they are in heavily distorted guitars playing anywhere between 2 and 4 chords for the entire duration of songs while a bass guitar happily toes the company line to the rhythm of a clanky bare bones drum set that sounds like boom boom tchik boom boom tchik over and over and over again until you wanna sniff some glue! Oh, and it's fuckin FAST! Well at least compared to a fuckin god damn Sex Pistols song or somethin. Oh, and this guy named fuckin Johnny Appleseed sings in this ridiculous fuckin voice all over the fuckin thing like some kinda fuckin drug addict - seamlessly drifting between happy silly little love songs and more perverted shit like beating up rich kids, nazi's, chain saws, prostitutes, etc. ITS GREAT! What's bad about it? THREE SONGS SUCK! I'll leave it to you, the 13 year old idiot who is masturbating right now to decide which ones they are! HA! Now you have to listen to all of them! This shit is fucking awesome! Remember this was 1976. So to the boner who wrote below that it's generic, it's only generic now because so many of your shitty bands fucking copied them to death. Rock? Punk Rock? Who gives a fuck! This is it, the holy grail of good music. Love this Ramones!!!!! Is this Punk? no. This is fucking Rock n'Roll. One of the greatest bands of all time. The Ramones suck. They are so generic. I think Good Charlotte have more complex songs than them. This is one of the best punk albums ever made and i love playin the songs on the drums...good stuff 15 year olds shouldnt be drinking beers BSD. Thats what Johnny law always tells me. No, because I threw a beer can at a kid with a GB shirt on once and hit him in the head and ran away. someone post a link to a picture of aaron bedard, i've never seen the guy. i'm interested. damn it - i'm supposed to hate you, but alas, i cannot. hahahahahaha ok i'm just writing for the sake of writing...plus i can't stand coming to this review and seeing twat's comment right away... Seriously janelle I know I give you girl wood, but you live in another state it just wont work! Damn these good looks! Damn you god! Your a imposter! I steam for my man. Do you steam then? Or just laundormat it? "Stop stalking me janelle. Can you iron my shirt?" Nooooo... "Go Girl Crazy" is nowhere near as good as "Rocket to Russia" in my book! The Dictators were more of a hard rock band than a punk one... Still, great band. I respect your opinion, because you're educated. Dictators not as good as the Ramones? BSD, i gotta disagree- both are fucking equal in my book. "Go Girl Crazy" = Rocket to Russia. Considering your a twat, you really have no function but to have dicks shoved in you, so Id stop it with the witty shovenistic jokes dickhole. And Twat likes "the Zep" too... That's weird to put out an album with only one long song on it. Stop stalking me janelle. Can you iron my shirt? oh and it was cool they played "Noise Annoys" and then went straight into "I Believe" - best part? nah - boredom, orgasm addict, ever fallen in love, and something's gone wrong again! fo sho Ever fallen in love is a kikass song. Weird thing... They play the old re-recorded songs they first made in the Devoto days live? That's cool, just kind of odd. yes i washed my hand... Oh that horny old buzzcock. Are you gonna wash your hand? I wouldnt. BUt then agian I never do anyway. All right people... "why dont you discuss how hot Forty is instead? " "Who else was ripping shit up in the old days?" Oh yeah, ramones fans and other fans of good punk n' roll...you better go score yourself a copy of the Dictators 1978 album "Blood Brothers" its a fukken classic! That's "thighs" you fucken hoodlum! I want to stroke Janelle's tighs. In the UK you had... Chaos UK, Discharge, Disorder, the Exploited, Skeptix, G.B.H., and their countless number of imitators. Not to mention the Crass movement. "late 70's: Misfits, Early DK, black flag. yeah, the Ramones too. okay guys calm down. let's stop squabling about things that dont matter and discuss something really important. for example, like how great i am. greenvandal can't spell. She has the prettiest ass I've ever seen. "was a pretty face" that's new... ...please don't ask me what the fuck i'm talking about...most of the time i just ramble incoherently, but once in awhile there's a gem in there. or not... Anyone doubting Janelle's beauty is a cuntrag. I've seen her myself, and let me tell you, she was a pretty face and an awesome body. yeah, i've contemplated registering...but i don't know; by not, i sort of keep my anonymous status in a way, although i do write my name. i don't want to give into THE MAN, i guess. holy fucking shit! that is weird janelle! in the past there's hardly been anybody impersonating others, except people used to impersonate fathead all the time (what happened to him?). people who impersonate others suck major cock. just another reasonw hy you should have to be registered to post comments. i find this really strange...the person impersonating BSD and myself (assuming it's the same person, of course) feels the need to explain ourselves when we are faced with a challenge. if there are any psych majors here, perhaps you should study the behaviour of this poster... "Fugazi lack integrity. They had behind their bullshit art school anti-fashion and they whore themselves to the mediocrity of a gullible, anti-Semitic, homophobic, independent scene. "pps who the feck cares what happened to bobby mcferrin. what the FUCK does he have to do with anything on punknews.org?" greenvandal can't spell. i'm not sure how a ramones album led to a discussion of fugazi and bobby mcferrin. however i have this to add. BSD...that was seriously fucking stupid what you said. Yeah, I gotta go with Mr. Pink on this one - he's not dead...yet. "The same thing is wrong with Bobby McFerrin. He marketed himself as happy, telling people not to worry. Then he killed himself." I've always liked Fugazi because of their music, I don't know about anyone else. BSD, calm down, have a beer or something. And I suppose the Ramones have more integrity than Fugazi? Go suck on dicks, Fugazi-haters. Speed in punk rock, when did it start? wow, Ive never heard such faulty logic and reasoning to put a band down. Congratulations BSD, you are a dumbass! I partially agree with BSD. I appreciate Ian's work ethic, and dedication, but in the same sense, the label doesn't do a lot to promote their bands and so on. Living in the area, I have realized what a closed scene the DC one has become. I mean, yes, Fugazi plays free or cheap shows, and distributes cheap cd's through Dischord, but in the same sense, Fugazi does little in a touring sense. And when they do shows, usually only a handful of lucky people know when and where it will be. Don't get me wrong, I utterly respect Ian and his work, but it is such a doubled-edged blade. should say hide, not had. Fugazi lack integrity. They had behind their bullshit art school anti-fashion and they whore themselves to the mediocrity of a gullible, anti-Semitic, homophobic, independent scene. What's wrong with Fugazi, BSD? oh yeah and another thing. how can you call the ramones pop-punk? there was no punk before them, so they couldn't possibly be a poppy style of something that there was none of. they were punk. as punk as you can possibly get because they invented it. hmmm... "The Ramones ARE boring and unoriginal. i agree, fuck that chick. "boba_fett, in order for "yay for objectifying women" not to be hypocritical, you would have to not watch porn or jerk off to your magazines. If you want to see REAL objectification of women, got to a site called MilfHunter, . com or something, but its called MilfHunter, and check out the CHEROKEE thing inparticular, thats the name of a women who is picked out by this FUCKHOLE on the street, and well youll see what happens. And im not a guy. "mid-paced pop punk? first, they were not mid-paced. ESPECIALLY not for their time. they were faster than anyone around." They may have originated the mid-paced pop punk sound, but they were too big of pansies to go any other direction after that. decent, nothing better. i recently borrowed this cd from someone at school. i liked it alot. i really like the ramones but don't own any of their records. i plan on getting their anthology soon and maybe rocket to russia which i think is the best album they've done. but i've only heard three of their albums, so it's just the best out of what i have heard. i thought everyone liked the ramones. what the feck? How can you criticize a band for "not going any other direction?" If anything, it pisses me off when bands go 'other directions,' look at American Steel. They were a top notch gritty punk band with amazing lyrics and awesome vocals and now they're a... emo band with amazing lyrics and awesome vocals but a sound that wants to make me puke. I'd prefer the ramones stay true to their sound than go off and release a fucking orchestral concerto or metal album (cough wattie). typo oh no!!!! That's "your logic", Miss I-Write-Wordy-Reviews. How could they be unoriginal when they were PIONEERS? The Ramones ARE boring and unoriginal. Just because they invented, or helped invent or whatever your stance on the whole fucking debate is, doesn't mean they're a great band. They're boring. If you've heard one song you've heard 'em all. Now if only all bands could get record deals for doing copious amounts of drugs... i was listening to the ramones since 78 when i was born. my mom and dad played this album as a burst forth from between me mums legs. something something punk rock blah blah something. One more thing - if anyone does ever write shit like that again, well, now you know it's not really me, I guess...oh well. I'd like to know who that was though...crazy bastard. Look, whoever you guys are, screw off. I don't feel compelled to let you know how I look, as I know I will be put down regardless of what you think of "me. I just wish you guys would grow up. It's really hurtful when you get bitched at 24/7 whenever you write a review or state an opinion. I hope you guys will give me a chance, because I'm really thinking about leaving this site for good if things don't get better for me. and the only appropriate usage is in Amerikkka. If any of you conservative punks got a prob with that STICK IT UP YOUR ASS!!! My name from now in ANON!!!!! and for fuckkks sake, taking advantage of a word that has a k in it and adding two more in words that dont call for it is stupid. I refer to the reveiwer teeny bop fuckkers. First, teeny boppers are stupid, but that doenst mean they got anything to do with the KKK or whatever. And you used it in the word fuckers, which makes it even more crap. And my name is Anonymous, stop everybody using it will you. The best punk album and one of the best rock n roll albums ever. I hope your not referring to me janelle, if so i am sorry, I was only jesting. janelle-don't pay attention to these jackoffs. that's why they post anonymously. they're fucking pathetic. (cue violin) i always enjoy reading your reviews and your comments. i think its awesome that girls (and knowledgeable ones at that)like you are involved in punk rock b/c god knows we need more lame fucks like those guys who are making the offensive comments. stick around! :) Reviews that direly need to be submitted before the end of the year so they can make the 2003 lists: dude these guys fucking blow. i have no idea why everyone liked them so much. i guess because they were a local band where i lived that actually was going somewhere..... maybe they were moving out of the shitter into the actual septic tank with all the other shit bands that all sound the same. these guys are scene fags and the guy who managed them in the getgo...yea you know who you are L, is a total cuntrag. the guy is a fucking idiot. hes like 47 who gets with 15 year old girls. that guys sounds like a real winner. anyways these guys blow ass and make even shitty bands such as the clash, the damned, etc sound like nothing i've ever heard before. but seriously, for those of you who enjoy whatever the fuck this is, have fun listening to it while you jerk off and write in your live journal. boba_fett, in order for "yay for objectifying women" not to be hypocritical, you would have to not watch porn or jerk off to your magazines. And im not a guy. "Is Janelle hot?" Uglier than Aaron Bedard? I think not. "So many of you are so pathetic." wow, this record hasn't been reviewed until now. this deserves a perfect 10. BSD, great review. Superdude.... funny shit. This review was good, but here's how I would make it better: The Ramones are trash. Why aren't they all fucking dead yet? "No. I'd have to say the extras on here are only for Ramones addicts like myself..." The first three are equal in my book. Equally great, that is. I agree with the guy below; "Rocket to Russia" is definitely my favourite. But I have a vinyl copy of this record framed on my wall, so it's got a special place in my heart too. Fuck not another tatecore band! yes perfect album. "Fuck yeah, this album rules. Is this a Rhino reissue? They always load up the albums with quality extras (see Elvis Costello)." "Fucktard....The review was good untill the "hey ho" holier than thou comment.....You are pathetic....." they were on sire, you dumb cunt. 'bout time someone reviewed the ramones I meant among the punk kids, not Top 40. If a kid wants to make himself out to be punk rock or rebellious or whatever, he's going to lash out against anyone who tells him what he should be listening to. More than anything else, punk is reactionary. To radio, to your parents, to your government in a lot of cases, and to some guy saying "THIS is cool, what you like is shit." "The knee-jerk response to "Listen to this or you're a loser" is automatically going to be rejection." As influential as they were, this score is for the music, which lacks explosiveness. I'll take Strike Anywhere and Dillinger Four over this anyday. Fuck yeah, this album rules. Is this a Rhino reissue? They always load up the albums with quality extras (see Elvis Costello). THIS is fucking punk rock. Yay BSD!!! I simly loved the opening line. Classic. This is fuckin great and its an all time all ages clasic. I´m 15 and love this shit This IS a perfect album. I have to disagree with the pathetic comments though. You're not helping the cause of getting the kids to listen to the older stuff by calling them names. Yeah, it's ignorant to say "Fuck the Ramones," but kids are always going to say that about something they're force-fed. The knee-jerk response to "Listen to this or you're a loser" is automatically going to be rejection. I like the "Leave Home" re-release, with the live recordings from their first west coast show. But this is damn good too. Yeah, like you were even born when this came out. Fucktard....The review was good untill the "hey ho" holier than thou comment.....You are pathetic..... Who the fuck is this band? Do they sound like Thrice? Just kidding BSD... |
