I remember the time when the Foo Fighters released this album, the Colour and the Shape, as the time when prevailing modern alternative rock began its disintegration into the scrum of rap-metal, numetal, lots of Creed and lots of Korn. Joining these four horsemen of the modern rock apocalypse were the leftovers from the Lilith Fair (Jewel), and some catchy but annoying, adult-contemporary songs like "Walking on the Sun," "Torn" and "Semi-Charmed Life."

and excellent record! corporate sensitive rock sucks...beat that hippie assholes from the stage now thats funny, but... what upsets me is that people are more concerned with labelling the music than actually giving the substance credit. fuck whether or not its punk in your opinion, because your opinion didn't influence the creative process behind any of the music you judge anyway. Anybody who describes Punk Rock as 3 Chord Slogan Shouting is an idiot. Why people who actually seem to hate punk gather at a forum called punknews.org is a mystery to me - Yeah, way back then Bands like Hüsker Dü etc were severely linked to the punk scenes, but times have changed and alternative Music has simply turned to mtv marketing shit. The same happened to New Wave when Bands like Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet made it cheesy and unexciting. So what the hack you wanted to say with that crap whoever said that alternative isn't part of punk must not be familiar with what was really considered alternative back in the late 80's and early 90's. this album kinda sucks. a few BRILLIANT tracks lumped in with a whole bunch of LP fodder. everlong fucking rules. wow...for everybody that is an alternative music listener the 3 chord argument seems to be the one, that their little foo fighters - nirvana brains seem to breed out. Hm, why is a band like Nomeans no that includes jazzy structures in their songs punk. Would you dare to say that Turbo ACs play 3 chords or do you really think that AFI, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, One Man Army etc. are bad musicians or do have very simple structures. Its not about arguing who has more skills (some punk bands have more but others dont, but hey who the fuck cares). the kid who insists that all foo fighters listeners are "MTV kids" must be an avid Anti Flag fan. screw the media man screw government we're all gonna die for our government. screw media. woo hoo we're all media screwers. anybody who thinks Kurt Cobain is a crappy singer has a crappy opinion. shut the fuck up BSD. you know you have no friends. -"Punkrock and Hardcore have to be elitist in some way cos if not, they will end up as another style of alternative music without power and attitude." fuck foo fighters and their fans they are not punk at all just lame mtv kids This is not about 3 chords, but its all about roughness, guts and independence and not about 3 chords. Fans of mainstream rock, that try to hide their MTV alt.com preference often have the argument, that the musical skills of the bands are better. If you compare a band like the International Noise Conspiracy or the skills of a band like AFi (wether you like em or not) etc... They are excellent musicians, but they still have some roughness and guts and they are punk in a more or less clear way. This is not, its just alternative like emo has nothing to do with punk and metalcore has not very much in common with hardcore (just bad played metal in my opinion). If anyone can review anything under the label punk, then some might find that o.k. I personally dont, cos then just name this site www.rocknews.com. Punkrock and Hardcore have to be elitist in some way cos if not, they will end up as another style of alternative music without power and attitude. The only little kids are the ones worshipping a record that came out in 1997 as one of the greatest rock albums ever. "but they themselve were not very original, had simple music, a crappy singer w/ nonsense lyrics. sorry. great drummer though." For all those little bitch "punk rock elists" out there, my next review will be about something 'punk.' why do they call this punknews, why dont they call it alternativeemonews...foo fighters...what a joke pat smear gave my friend genital warts pat smear was cool in the germs pat smear? he wasn't cool you fuck. die! The internet is a god send in the life of a music fan Pat Smear was cool, Everlong was a good song. Other than that, the Foo Fighters are forgettable, this album was as good as it got for them I think. I think the late nineties was just a bad time for music, especially for someone without internet (or otherwise) access to bands not played on MTV or the radio. Thank god that's over. On a side note I will admit that Dave Grohl is very talented It's getting pretty old when people say that people like Nirvana only because everyone else does. Nirvana was a great band and believe it or not, they had tons of fans way before Kurt died. Though people who say stuff like that were probably still in kindergarten in '94. Also, listen to more obscure Nirvana songs like Talk To Me, Moist Vagina and If You Must and then tell me they sucked or weren't "punk". foo fighters are amazing. (_)_)====[jjj}==D~~~ ~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~ I used to watch MTV all day just so I could see the "Everlong" video. Still makes me laugh to this day. Then I discovered the internet. well if i suck you blow there brucecambelljackson What's the deal? Boo. Hiss. Get this crap off of here. Oh, and you suck poopypants. that took balls one true bill. i swear people love nirvana just cuz they're supposed to. they are just hyped to death after kurt killed himself. they are a media created legend. they may have changed mtv's focus on whats cool music, but they themselve were not very original, had simple music, a crappy singer w/ nonsense lyrics. sorry. great drummer though. I'd rather listen to the Foo than Nirvana too. I've always felt that Nirvana as a band, purely on songs, was overrated. I was in 7th grade. It still brings the fury and the funk. Its no Nirvana, but really, what is. I forgot how good this was until the other day when some friends and myself went on a little road trip through the mountains. Considering what I had been forced to listen to, this was a vast departure and made me re-realize how good the was and still is. Jeez, I was a junior in college when this came out. scott didn't review this, renob. Awesome album. I think I was in 7th grade bustin caps and fuckin bitches when this motherfucker dropped. This was just a good, classic rock album that you could listen to forever. that's all. hmm takes me back to 11th grade, making me old. i like the singles but the album didnt do it for me, but to be honest.....i'll say it......let the bashing begin........I WOULD MUCH RATHER LISTEN TO THE FOO FIGHTERS THAN NIRVANA. y the fuck did you review this. scott...this is punknews. and you fuckwads bash the casualties... I hope and pray that some people here might review a punk or hardcore album instead of this indie-alternative lame shit. Everlong is definitely the best power-pop song ever written. Not a bad song on this album. The only (very) minor flaw about this album is the version of Walking After You they put on it, I liked the single version a little better. Awesome album. i used to practice the "one last thing before i quit.." thing and i think i nailed it after a while. i haven't tried in a while though. it's fucking awesome. Amd just because I feel left out: The disclaimer at the end of my last post was supposed to indicate that my message was a parody of other comments that have been on this website. I believe I was in the fifth grade when this album came out, so I'd be just as guilty. if you were in 6th grade when this came out, then you are either 18 or 19.... oh, no! I think I was in fifth grade when this came out. OH NO! Dude, don't admit you were in 6th grade for this release. what a great band score is for the album in general. Though I like Foo Fighters, this record ain't that great. A few good songs, and the same amount of bad ones. Their debut is definitely their best material. this takes me back a bit. i remember rocking out to this when i was in 10th grade. i feel old. i'm going to cry now. Fond memories of 6th grade right there. Everlong is still one of my favorite songs after all these years. One of the greatest Rock n Roll albums ever. Buy his new Probot album instead. Yo, I don't know why this album is reviewed here, but I don't really care. It is an amazing rock album, the Foo Fighters best, and one I still go back to when I needs the rock. they could never be bad in my mind for not only releasing this album, but for spelling colour the proper way. Easily one of THE most underrated rock albums of all-time. great album How the fuck did he sing the entire Monkey Wrench "One last thing before I quit..." part in one breath. It's really hard, I've tried a million times |
