Reviews

The following is the first paragraph of this band's press sheet (with corrections made by me in parenthesis).

By standard definitions (by our own word bending), The Awkward Romance's music is too energetic to be emo (really, they're flat out lying here - it's really boring stuff), too deep to be pop-punk (oh lordy), too catchy not to be pop (because that's all it is - pop), and has too obvious of a mass appeal to be indie rock (that's for damn sure - all the NFG fans would eat this steaming pile o' shat right up). So, instead of choosing a genre, the set out simply to write the best songs they can, regardless of genre (don't use the word "genre" twice in a sentence, it's rule #3 in basic writing). The result is powerful (nope), high-energy (noperino) songs with honest lyrics (now they're lying about honesty), clever guitar work (yeah, clever like how Blink 182's four chord pattern was revolutionary, or how their riff for "Damnit" was mind-blowingly technical) and impassioned melodies (using the word "impassioned" doesn't make you smart). Although it has been said (by who?) that they "Artfully bring together the clever songcrafting of indie rock, the melodic sensibilities of pop-rock, the energy of pop-punk, and the passion of screamo", (okay, seriously, that was the worst way to describe a band. Ever.) they would much rather avoid labels altogether, and instead have people focus soley (on how bad they suck) on the music and take it for what it is (bland, un-inspired pop-punk).

Any band with the words "awkward" or "romance" in their name is just begging to be a shitty pop/punk/indie/emo/screamo band.

It really is boring. And bland. And boring. BORING. boringboringboringboringboringboringboringboring boringboringboringboring boringboring boring boring boringboringboringboringboringboringboring

Time to get a new band.

When someone reviews an album they are not reviewing the band as people, the myspace songs or their live show. Maybe they pour Everything into their music, but i guess they aren't made of much...

You are about as sucky as a reviewist as you claim this band is. First of all, THEY are the ones in a band, not you, which must say something about their abilities reaching far and above your own. Second, obviously people think they are good enough to go on Warped Tour. Third, unless you have heard their new album, "To Breathe is to Compromise", or heard them live, then don't write such a bad review about something you so obviously know nothing about. Go to their purevolume or myspace account pages and listen to their new stuff. Who cares if YOU don't like it. But that doesn't make them a bad band. I've seen them live and what a show it is. They put EVERYTHING into their music. So do some research before you go criticising them bro.

oh, and since when does a bands name decide for them whether they suck or not? that's just ignorance.

    My Score:

don't say you don't like a band if you've never listened to them. if you HAD, in fact, listened to the awkward romance, you would discover that they are amazing.

    fag.

"Although it has been said (by who?)"

    That would be Jason Tate.

    My Score:

Why is everyone making fun of them? They are a lot better than hundreds of bands. Everyone else I talk to loves them. So, you all can just go put your head where the sun doesn't shine.

    My Score:

The funny part is that the poser who reviewed this CD agreed that they have mass appeal... sounds like your jealous they'll be making the $$ in a few years.

From what I can tell this CD isn't good quality... but at least they are trying to get away from the Blink sound... well we can only hope.

Dude fuck you. It sucks regardless of who they worship. Like Cat Power.

    My Score:

THE AWKWARD ROMANCE is the BEST band in the WORLD! They have great music and great lyrics. If you knew anything about them, you would understand that their name is about the AWKWARD ROMANCE between humans and God. If you don't understand that, ask Andrew, the lead singer.

Their music is very powerful and effects a lot of people. Unlike other bands, The Awkward Romance is REAL. They have real experiences that they put in their music that make it a lot better.

"Jawbreaker isn't pop punk you fucking tool. It's more post-punk than anything."

Asshair, give it up. No one cares about your silly little labels. Do you like the music? yes? Than say its GOOD MUSIC. Is the band untalented? yeah? Than say its SHITTY MUSIC. no reason to rip into someone because their idea of 'post-punk is slightly different than yours. christ the bleeder, get a fucking life and stop doing google searches for "history or post-punk," at which point you waste our time with your anicdotes and opinions...

    My Score:

In my mind post-punk is for bands like The Cure, Depeche mode and Joy division... I guess I was wrong, I'm sure you're an expert in labelling music.

"Dear you" is still my favorite pop-punk album...

    My Score:

The score is for the press release. We learn three important things:

1)Emo means no energy (for sure Lifetime is so limp)
2)Pop Punk can't be deep (Jawbreaker lyrics are so superficial)
3)Indie Rock is too complicated (Pixies's Doolittle is so unaccessible)

Oh no... they're not pretentious at all...

That was a funny review. Although you probably could have written that review without actually listening to it. Dear lord that was the worst press release i've ever read.

    My Score:

Maybe it was too easy and I'm being Captain Obvious when I say that when I saw their band name, somehow I knew that the word emo would be in the review somewhere.

I feel bad for bands who play this style of music.
