Just when i'm not expecting it, Shelter belts out another record.. this time called The Purpose, The Passion. I have been a big fan of this band ever since the Quest for Certainty album came out. This record is 15 ripping melodic hardcore tunes that just stick in your head and your CD player for a long time. The lineup of the band has changed drastically again... Cappo is the only original member. But this record has some real talent nonetheless...with Sean Sellers (formerly of Good Riddance) on the drums, but he didnt play drums on the record... Dave Dicenso (ex-Baby Gopal) on guitar, and some other guys from Mantra that round out the new lineup.

Every song on this album is fast with Cappo's usual spiritual uplifting lyrics. Anyway, This is one rad Shelter album. recorded, mixed and produced by former Better Than A Thousand drummer Ken Olden. I heard this may be Shelters' last record since Cappo can't ever keep a full band together., so check out this album. Even if you didn't like the old Shelter, this one should appeal to you. Go check out Youth of Today also; old school 80's hardcore also with Cappo on vocals. And Better Than A Thousand's Just One out on Revelation and Value Driven on Epitaph Europe.

    no, he's not krishna anymore. he gave up the movement. yes, he's still all vegan and straight edge and crap but he's not into spreading the hindu text in his songs. that's why he broke up shelter in the first place.

    I'm cluing you kids in on a SMALL detail.
    Ray isn't Krishna anymore...the point of the band was to spreaad word of the Krishna conscious.
    Add that to the fact that he's no longer straight edge...I'm not talking shit...those words are straight from Denis [of Int. Noise Conspiracy/Refused]. there's no way saying that to me would benefit him in any way...and he's not the kind of guy who'll lie to you and make shit up.
    So all you sXe kids might wanna have a word with that guy since I'm betting that his flame isn't burning anymore and he's living a new kind of freedom.

    To the anonymous fuck who said that shelter only had one good album, you obviously dont have a clue as to how good this band is and what they have brought to the scene. Why dont you go back under that rock you call home because you have nothing valid to say.

    This band has made ONE good album: Mantra. On the basis of that record, I picked up Perfection of Desire, Attaining the Supreme, and Beyond Planet Earth. I no longer have any patience. I wish they'd go away

    I too had no idea shelter was still together, than bam, theres a new record.

    The best song on the record in my opinion is the one that departs more than any of them from a typical hardcore song.

    "If it ever heals at all" is just haunting and beautiful, no drums. "inner garden" is another song that differs from the rest of the record with great results.

    Shelter is one band whose simplicity in its aim and musical direction had been surpassed by just how well they do it, the consistency of quality, and in the fact that when they do toss it up (the poppiness of the this planet earth LP, the differing tempos of Mantra) they can have immensely wonderful results.
