Pop-punk is an interesting term. It can very easily carry positive or negative connotations depending on what band it is referring to. Sometimes pop-punk can be simple, like packing dog shit inside a filet, calling it the special of the week, and then force-feeding it to thousands of pre-teens with no taste buds. At other times it can refer to the horde of indistinguishable groups that still call an indie label home, but have been just as artistically innovative as those aforementioned bands. Finally, pop-punk can mean bands like Jawbreaker, the Lawrence Arms, Dillinger Four, or Green Day, who have been able to transcend their peers by creating music that is melodic, intense, intelligent and accessible. The Loved Ones are one of those bands.

Amazing. Catchy. Intelligent = Awesome these guys are amazing i think there goin to make it huge there music really jumped out at me and massive is a great song Amazing ep from these guys... I recently seen them in London and it was incredible... for the acoustic show dave broke a string on the second song and all stores were closed so we chilled all day... Hope the best for these guys! holy crap, i need to get this. Who cares? You omitted to mention that, while The Loved Ones and HWM may sound a bit like Jawbreaker, they in no way approach that band's greatness. You omitted to mention that, while The Loved Ones and HWM may sound a bit like Jawbreaker, they in no way approach that band's greatness. "It sounds very, very similar to Hot Water Music" "It sounds very, very similar to Hot Water Music" yeah, i dunno this didnt really jump out at me... i've only listened to it like 2 or 3 times though, I bought the 10 inch from the chunksaah website, does the cd release have extra songs? Good for them. Here's hoping a full length isn't too far off. this is decent but not as good as I had hoped. It sounds very, very similar to Hot Water Music, not something I was expecting considering the backgrounds of these guys. pick up the loved ones 10" on red and green splattered limited vinyl at www.chunksaah.com for $10. I checked these guys out the other day and wasn't too impressed, but I'll look back into it just in case. The only song I've heard by this band that left any impression on me is "Arsenic" and they didn't even put that on this EP. Maybe it's just this style; I'm not too hot on None More Black either except for a few songs which are amazing. These guys were pretty good when I saw them open for The Bouncing Souls and Against Me! They had a sale on all their '04 albums last December ($9 per record). You really missed out. I got 4 CDs and it cost me less than 45$ Canadian. Uh.. when the hell did jade tree raise the price of their cds to $12?? Daves vocals are perfect for this. For those so inclined, the video for 100k is posted at the Jade Tree site: Uh.. when the hell did jade tree raise the price of their cds to $12?? "buy or sell? this band took their name from an elvis costello song on Imperial Bedroom?" Uh.. when the hell did jade tree raise the price of their cds to $12?? buy or sell? this band took their name from an elvis costello song on Imperial Bedroom? "i have the first demo, it's great. but it's sold out now. These guys rocked NY last weekend. I was treated to a nice singalong during Jane of Dave singing/spitting right in my face. i have the first demo, it's great. but it's sold out now. These guys take themselves too seriously. I called out "Stairway to Heaven" in between songs when they played with Against Me! and they took it very seriously and obviously thought they were the shit. Their music is pretty good, though. no just stop there. be grateful..you don't want to ruin what you have 100k reminds me of the demo a lot. Its much more upbeat passionate. ive only heard 100k, but i liked it alot... The Loved Ones demo is MUCH better. I highly suggest buying it (I think the website still has it, I got it at a show) before it sells out. The Curse's demo was good but the ep was a lot better. Alright " Is The Curse "demo" the 4 song ep? Or did they issue a demo before that? Love this record, but I like the demo a little better. Shit bitch i purchased the curseds demo at a show I've listened to this EP a million times since I saw them in NY, it's great. I've been waiting for material from this band since the first press release, and when I heard the demo versions of "Candy Cane" and "Arsenic", I was hooked. TLO are my new favorite band right now, plain and simple. Too great... These guys practiced at the same place as my band this past summer. I noticed one night that the bassist's road cases said "Kid Dynamite" and asked him what's what. Nice dude... never walked by their room to have a listen though. I do want this EP, though. Trial By Fire was fucking awesome. BizzleHatesYou is my AIM Screenname I don't have it online, but I'll hook you up when I get home from work, what's your IM? I have the Curse DEMO and the Loved Ones DEMO. Both rock. I have the Curse DEMO and the Loved Ones DEMO. Both rock. I dunno if anyone has mentioned this, but I remember reading in The Curse's CD booklet that Dave Hause wrote most of their lyrics. whatever. ps. - this ep fucking blows Whoever mentioned the DEMO is dead on... yes I too think the PG comment was right on the money, however I love that song and I love this EP...very heart felt and real not cooked up in a kitchen somewhere but written in a garage, nice work fellas. Darn good EP. what a great ep. The bassline to "massive" has been stuck in my head for days. Dave did the backup vox in the curse right? he was obviously back up vox in PIB with lines like 'we'll disapear without a trace...'..am i right? the loved ones rock. they're the best band i've heard in a while. they make solid music with good lyrics. Amusingly, I wrote a very similar review of this. I would say that it probably deserves a lower score than an 8. It's better than average but not by much... still, a band with definite potential for very significant improvement. Ex-Kid Dynamite? Melodic punk in the vein of HWM? ...why is this so painfully mediocre? |
