In my last review of a Jade Tree release, I complained (ok, whined) that Jade Tree was only signing indie rock bands with 6 minute songs. Apparently, I was to be proven wrong mere days after that review went up. Strike Anywhere's Change Is a Sound is one of the best melodic/hardcore records of 2001. Like Jade Tree labelmates, Kid Dynamite and Lifetime, Strike Anywhere manages to meld melody and aggressiveness like nobody's business. The record is an 11 song, sub-30 minute opus with hooks, screams, and great breakdowns. It's the kind of positive, energetic hardcore that many bands try, but few really succeed at. If anyone is succeeding though, at the subgenre pioneered by Lifetime, and Gorilla Biscuits, then it's Strike Anywhere. If you haven't heard them yet, the best comparison's I could make are probably to Dischord-era Dag Nasty, and the song structure and dynamics of "Perfect Government" from NOFX's Punk in Drublic. But comparisons are probably unecessary, because you're probably going to hear them all over the place, because they're really fucking good. Please login or register to post comments. "For good hardcore, check Rise Against." this is a fucking 10 for me. one of my favorite albums ever. A teensy bit too preachy for me, but still stellar. I like it better than "Exit English", to be honest. "Chalkine" is one of my favorite songs. I fucking love StrikeAnywhere. I never get tired of their songs. For good hardcore, check Rise Against. A mix between old Good Riddance and BigWig. Not really imaginative or creative, but with good lyrics. Good Riddance has grown way over that. theze guyz know how 2 play!! This is a great CD. This album fucking rocks. One of RVA's finest. They are an amazing band... With an amazing stage skills.. These guys are gonna take the scene by storm you watch and see! Kid dynamite is cool but strike anywhere is wayyy better....much much more talented. eh, i like strike anywhere a whole bunch more than kid dynamite. i see more potential in SA than i did of KD Yes another band ripping off Kid Dynamite...cuz we're not sick of hearing that. This band is in-fucking-credible. The first band I've come across in a long time that sends chills up my spine with practically every song they write. The "Chorus of One" Ep was great, and this full length is even better. Damn....This is good shit..not your typical jade tree stuff you would find anymore...keep signing bands like this!! i was just going to write a review of this cd. it is flat out good. damn good. if you havent heard them yet, listen to them. they are great. |
