Great great record. Catchy as hell.

I dig their last record a lot as well, although I find myself getting bored when I listen to their first 2 records.

This shit is good. I have been listening to these two for awhile now. The song writing is what pushes it over for me and alotta 21 shows, you can tell this isn't your little sister's pop shit.

As a fat, straight, white male I will tell you that I love this album. It's just a really good pop album.

I went to see them in Pittsburgh in support of this album and there were tons and tons of girls there. More hot girls than I have ever seen at any show. 2/3rds of them were probably lesbians though. That kinda sucks but whatever. They were good.

P.S. Communique guy, I enjoyed you guys too.

I know two people who are really really really into this band. But they're both lesbians, so I think that might have something to do with it. I've heard most of "So Jealous," and I didn't really like it at all. However, their song "I Know I Know I Know" is unbelievably amazing.

Interesting comment by Senior Lush. The problem remains that even if their live show is killer, most people on this site still probably wouldn't go. The way I look at it an album is like a trailer for a bands live show. If the album is good, with any luck, the live show should be better. However, if the album is bad I don't hold out for the live show. That's why I sort of wish they'd do away with music videos and just make live footage of the single the band is releasing. I'd be much more interested to see...Say, A7X play "Bat Country" live than to watch a horrible zombified video. Same goes for T&S, if they are good I'd rather see the live footage than listen to the album. But I'm an asshole.

Actually, this music is taking over the anarcho-scene in my town. It's this boring-assed folk crap.

I'm sure they are really nice people, but this music is so boring. Maybe it strikes me as boring because when you have a show set up, you want to see a band that rocks. And usually some boring folk asshole sets up and plays for a long time.

College kids suck.

Great album, great review.

Some people have argued that "female-emo" is fundamentally different from "guy-emo" - which may or may not be true. Regardless, T&S write great songs that usually express universal emotions in interesting or totally unique fashion. Pitchfork.com died to me the day they reviewed this... and totally, completely missed the boat... not like that happens a lot or anything....

Anyways, definitely good stuff.

Wow, I'm shocked someone reviewed this for punknews.org.

I just did a tour working for the support band (Communique) on their July US tour, so I'm biased. These Canucks were ON every night and had some of the best on-stage banter (always different) I've seen. My tastes usually run harder and faster than T&S, but this cd has 5-6 genuine pop songs. I prefer their live sound to this cd- it's a bit too trebly for me- but in terms of the pop structure, they've got it down.

"Walking With A Ghost" may be inescapable, but like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and half of the Ramones catalog, it's a fucking pop masterpiece of a tune. It doesn't sound like those 2 bands, but the structure is... wow... too catchy for words.

The weird thing for band people watching them is that they double their vocals because they're identical twins. It's eerie, especially when Tegan breaks out and drops her voice lower to mix things up (she's the smoker of the two). They're both good guitarists and their band of 3 other Canadians is spot on.

In terms of going to their shows to score with chicks, unless you're female yourself most of the chicks in the crowd won't be interested in you. Quote from Albany NY security dude halfway through the show: "Man, when I saw all these chicks lined up I was excited, but... what can you do?"

So yeah, I'm biased. This record's too trebly for me, but it's still pretty good stuff. I put it like this to people who know me and my record collection- "Even I like their songs!"

i saw this "band" in montreal. terrible show, i was there for the bar and the chicks

i can't even sit through walking with a ghost, but the radio plays it all the time. not sure about the rest of their stuff. that one song bugs me enough to avoid the cd at all costs.

i dont think i would stick anything in these chicks

these bitches are boring and you know it, someone's just hoping to get fucked when they come to town.

Don't know if that "Walking with a Ghost" song is on here but that song gets on my last fucking nerve. It sounds nice enough until you realize that it's about 8 lines long just repeating over and over again. Then every time it comes on it just grates like a cheesegrater on your nipples.

I liked this a lot too, so I'm glad to see someone else give it a chance. Good as it is though, the two albums that came before it [This Business Of Art & If It Was You] are just as fun.
