The Real McKenzies are a group of Scottish drunks who live in Canada. They play music that is as much Bad Religion and Social Distortion as it is traditional highland fare, and they wear kilts when they grace a stage. As strange as these combinations may seem, the McKenzies know how to rock.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES THIS IS AMAZING! This album is just great. Way catchier than most of the irish stuff. Not to knock any DkM or Flogging Molly, but this album just seems more sincere. How old is the singer...I remember seeing them on the Fat Tour two years ago and thinking he was old, then on one of the songs he mentions being 53. Yeah, but it's just funny because SD grew up in the suburbs and hardly originated "mid-tempo hardcore" or whatever. It's Oi!, and this band is definitely Oi! influenced. You know who else is? Swingin' Utters. And Bouncing Souls. bsd, you should know better than to mention oi! on this site. This is one of the best cd's of the year so far. Certainly the best album from Fat Wreck Chords this year. I'm being generous when I say it's worth a listen. I would download the songs, not buy it...... It's ok, but gets stale quick. Working class ethic of Social Distortion? Dude, that's all Oi!... Nothing to do whatsoever with SD. "to the guy two posts below who hasnt learned to properly cut and paste...what the hell are you talking about with your punk points and shit? what in my comment made you think i care about all that and when you were listening to rkl? lets not forget that the Tossers are golden. "I don't know if we ever needed this band, there's already Flogging Molly and DKM's on top of this." Aren't the Real McKenzies just a bunch of Canadian drunks with fake Scottish accents? "I don't know if we ever needed this band, there's already Flogging Molly and DKM's on top of this." real mackenzies dont sound all that much like flogging molly, who have more of an irish feel. I think I liked "Oot & Aboot" better. At least it seems more memorable to me. The song "Pour Decisions" on here is awesome. Sorry, about the third album thing, the press release from Fat only mentioned their previous two. I don't know if we ever needed this band, there's already Flogging Molly and DKM's on top of this. I dunno i could take this more then say mad caddies but man....... Actually like this a ton on the first listen through, lukewarm since then. Vocals just seem like a blur throughout. I count this as their 6th album BTW. Sigh... Way to go, parentheses! I believe this surprisingly their fifth album (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE57C1DDD47A 87720C99D2D56C0A767D20ED342F38250234558C09D0243BF005EC672E9D1D2B3 FC6AB679AFFA62A5500FD3C0EE53ECAD1B&searchlink=REAL MCKENZIES&uid=CAW030508260059&sql=11:7267gjero6ic~T2). Score is for managing to write a good review of these guys without mentioning Dropkick or Fl. Molly. |
