Silverstein's first full-length, When Broken Is Easily Fixed, didn't even necessarily suffer due to its massively clichéd nature, but more from a faulty, usually cringeworthy lyrical base and a vast array of dragging tempos that rarely, if ever, slipped into or past mid-pacing. The sophomore effort here, Discovering The Waterfront, corrects the last of these attributes to a degree, as well as applying some more interesting guitar work and effects throughout, and providing some seriously competent melodies at plenty of the right times. However, it seems to act more as a profile of a band with potential to master the art of whatever fair-to-deathly rehashed genre they wish to, but instead are catering to a sing-scream trend long worn out and further drowning in an act of watering down.

Silverstein's type of music is confusing and cluttered, but since they have catchy choruses that make you want to look up their lyrics on Google, I like them. Has anyone else seen the music video for Smile in your Sleep? I know I have and it flipping rocks! I think its pretty cool how they based it off of the game clue and that butler guy...Pretty creepy but cool at the same time! I love the album everyone should pick it up!!!! Smile In Your Sleep was amazing. i liked the video for it too. Hey reviewer guy, why does everyone working for this site only like shitty music? ps : for all those dissing silverstein , lets see you do better idiots !! and paul and shane are HOTTTT! ! ! this was by far the best album i have bought in years.. i think the lyrics are amazing. i love each song , the music and the story behind it . unlike some cds where there are one or two good songs , each and every track is my favourite !! and silverstein is also amazing live If silverstein were so great, they wouldn't need their clueless emo kid fanbase to defend them so much. Hey, to all those people are dissing silverstein. You don't know what you are saying. They are a a great band. To those are saying that they suck balls or there gay. WEll, I have some good news. YOu are the one are sucking balls, and are gay. Don't be talking about them if you don't even know them. They are a great band. FUCK, whatever bands you like whoever is dissing silverstein! It's "Smashed into Pieces" for your information. Both of their albums are great!!! Silverstein all the way! They are awesome, Shane's lyrics are amazing! I love all the songs and the album cover.....sweeeeeet!! i loved this album because it is livley. the Cover art is fucking pathetic. fucking emo faggot crying. Silverstein "Discovering The Waterfront" (2/27/06) This cd is awesome. Best screamo cd i have ever heard. If you don't like screamo why are you here reading this wasting your time? Instead of bashing bands you dont like why dont you go review bands you do like. This was a really good album. I think that the best songs on it are your sword vs. my dagger, Fist wrapped in blood, and My Heroin. I thought this cd was rather catchy, they're at least trying to stand out a bit more in this severely over saturated genre. Shane has a decent voice and the guitars have gotten better. Not as much heartbreak bitching, and more aggression for the most part, but they also slow it down for a song or two which works for them pretty well. wow id rather listen to mosh-metal. dude ur an idiot. silverstien is fucking sweet Smile in Your Sleep is lame. If you actually listen to the CD, you could figure that out. Fist Wrapped In Blood or Defend You are WAY better. silverstein really does suck balls, i think they should have done a way better job because it really fuckn blows!!!! Yeah so they did some ok music in the past like "Broken to pieces", but after that they turned in to mtv faggots big time not to be a bitch bu all these so called bands are getting so much airplay on tv its kinna annoying if you ask me and they should come up with something new Wow. Me and the crazytoledo actually agree on something. "victory blows, the best thing to ever happen is for them to sign the tossers. screw emo and melodic hardcore. isn't that an oxymoran? melodic hardcore...just like military intelligence..." smile in your sleep ...what a gay song title...that sounds like shitty 80s metal....thats what they call hardcore at the moment..sorry victory blows, the best thing to ever happen is for them to sign the tossers. screw emo and melodic hardcore. isn't that an oxymoran? melodic hardcore...just like military intelligence... score This score is for Mowgli from the Jungle Book. That stud is on the cover. "John Doe also sucks..." It seems like priority should be given, at least to some extent, to albums that are coming out. gay.. or GAY? Silverstein - Discovering The Waterfront O yea, scores for the ETID disc, not Silverstein. / Dude, the new Every Time I Die CD is awesome. I only heard a few songs from them before, but 'Gutter Phenemon' was awesome in every way possible. Fantastic album with profound lyrics and complementary medodies. "My Heroine" and "Smile in your Sleep" are beautiful songs. Once this CD goes on your player, you won't be able to take it off. Other bands may imitate, but don't come near the overall effect that Silverstein creates with their inspired music. I agree with the comment below me. Sheil Silverstein were the greatest books when I was a kid! This band tongues major toad assholes! By the way, Hawthorne Heights & Motion City Soundtrack fucking blow also!!!! Score is for a half-assed, telegraphed soggy rock act ripping their name from a gifted poet and writer. does this work like this? man review more punk bands here instead of your beloved mtvcore I have nothing personal against any of you guys.....I'm just hoping that my work on reviewing records that I feel people should check out wont be ignored. And to the other guy, yes I am a staff writer and im just not signed in......my comp is fucked up and I'm too lazy right now to look up my password. Brandon: For the most part, I do go by submission date, and there are 12 staff reviews that were submitted earlier than your John Doe review. i made the previous post. upon second reading of that post i quoted, i realized you might be a staffer that isnt signed in? well if thats the case, then i am an ass and wrong. oh well. "well brian who made up the lame ass rule that what you get mailed get's first priority. If anything, it should go in-order of submission date....that would make the most sense. I thought punk sites weren't about giving priority to "certain releases". I know for a fact many reviews were turned in (by me & many other people) of both brand new and very old albums long before the majority of these reviews, and they have yet to (if ever) see the light of day. I think it's pretty lame that we are called "staff writers" yet I reviews have only a 50/50 chance of being shown. In my opinion, I think readers would be more interested in John Doe than Silverstein......just my opinion, but I'm willing to bet it's true." anyone else think that every time i die sounds like it should be the next james bond movie? well brian who made up the lame ass rule that what you get mailed get's first priority. So the stuff that gets sent by mail (usually total crap like this) get's priority? I thought this site gave "punk rock" music priority? Hmmmmm.....guess you learn something new everyday. "to the guy two posts below who hasnt learned to properly cut and paste...what the hell are you talking about with your punk points and shit? what in my comment made you think i care about all that and when you were listening to rkl? There's another BIG review for an album released on August 16th that's waiting in the queue. Oh, and as long as we're complaining about missing reviews, where's the gogol bordello review? I really like the new Every Time I Die. I've always been a big fan of their music, and I think they're one of those bands that gets better with each new album. I didn't really get the impression that they were selling themselvers; on the contrary I think that more singing instead of screaming is the opposite of what the kids want, as you can see from the fact that Hawthorne Heights actually sells records. However, I watched the video, and putting Michael Madsen in a video is like getting on your knees and begging MTV to play it. And I'm seeing them live in a few months on my birthday, so I'll see if you're right about them live. If you haven't seen ETID live, I highly recommend it. I mean, I just saw them at Sounds of the Underground, and they were easily one of my favorites, Keith looked about to pass out he was screaming so hard. It's sad hearing these things about the new album though, but I'm going to have to pass my own judgement. RondoMondo-- You've hit on most of my problems with the album, but overall I like it. My biggest problem is how Keith now sounds like every generic metalcore vocalist ever. What a disappointment. Hmmmmmm.....five weeks and still no John Doe review......I wonder if somebody has something personal against me. Honestly if you are a GRADE fan you have to apperciate these guys, for doing that sound and keeping it alive!!! I'd give my left nut to see Grade play live again! There's LIFETIME and KID DYNAMITE reviews to read. these guys are horrible, but you all know that. saosin, senses fail, silverstein...just start your band w/ an 's' and sound like this shit, surely some shitty label will pick u up and exploit you The kids in my town go apeshit for this bullshit, they love the shitty pretend hardcore, Silverstein fuck off please? silverstein sucks Hmmmmmm.....five weeks and still no John Doe review......I wonder if somebody has something personal against me. I know not ALL of these are from longer ago. I can't get into this band. The guy's voice sounds sort of dry, he's not a bad singer though. Band would be good if they would stop trying to put 3 or 4 songs into one. wait, sensefield is real? well, shiver me timbers. don't get sense field confused with the rest of that crap. > i always get this band confused with senes fall and sensefield i always get this band confused with senes fall and sensefield etwiels88: I did. I just want a place to talk about it, and to see what the general consensus of the CD is. Also, Silverstein is horrible. Actually, toledo wrote this too, but I was 2 paragraphs in when he submitted it, and I wasn't letting mine go to waste. oh and PS: they always have incredibly cool artwork, even if they don't have the music to match it. not a fan of the band, that's for sure. Why don't you just buy the ETID album? why is silverstein the lead review and not kid dynamite or lifetime? Okay, it's apparent to me now that you're just not posting an ETID review to bother me.
