| Q and Not UNo Kill No Beep Beep2000 Dischord

Published on August 6th 2001 There is no way to describe Q and Not U's "No Kill No Beep Beep," without using comparisons to narcotics. With that said, this band has put out the best Dischord release since Rites Of Spring's "End On End." This suprisingly young band with an explosive and volatile stage show has grabbed this reviewer's attention in an odd curious way. This record sounds like what the Get Up Kids have always needed. A little crack. With a little crack, the Get Up Kids might be able to pull of the snotty, urgent vocals or the angular start/stop musical structure or the bizarre, poisonous lyircs that Q and Not U are making themselves known for. Not to say Q and Not U is completely weird. They maintain a phenomenal pop sensablilty and a somewhat cutsy sound, but manage not to drown in it,unlike other cheap emo rip offs that Vagrant seems content to shove down our throats. Highlight tracks are sparce on this album because Q and Not U make it a point to say through the music that this is not 12 songs individually wrapped for a mix tape, but an intense package of beautifully bizarre rock, a swirling sonically pleasing disc that will satisfy the american syndrome inside yourself, and also feed the beast that is your desire for pop music. Q and not U are one of the greatest bands around. Not only is this album amazing their live performaces are also very very engaging. if ian mccaye thinks enough of these guys to sign them and produce one of their records... No way. Q And Not U are making the most challenging, smart, and albeit quirky music the punk scene has seen to date. Sure it's grating, angular, and jittery. So what? That's what makes it an amazing record. A must for anyone who likes uncompromising music. Harris and the boys can all have a taste of me. They are a great band this is the most pop you'll ever get from dischord, this is not that "wierd" as you have described it. weird is spiritualized or fantomas. you can get so much more out there than these guys. and a comparison to the get up kids? i really don't hear it. nah...they suck Q and not U are one of the best bands out right now. Their music is unbelievable and just downright awesome. the lyrics are genius, there is nothing bad to say about this band yeah this is bad stuff...one of the worst bands I have heard in a while...stupid name stupid album title, stupid band bad review, also even though I love progressive music, but these guys... no, they irritate me and I've tried to like this stuff, but I can't the vocals are grating and just plain don't like the music part either. |
