I noticed there was not a single QOTSA review on the site, and for open-minded individuals like us I felt knowledge of this album had to be shared. Sure, I hated this band when Songs for The Deaf was all over the radio and TV, but since then my tastes have matured and blues-influenced rock has become an essential part of my collection. Don't kid yourself though, as this album is anything but that, with styles as varying as the musicians themselves. Spawned from Josh Homme's relatively overlooked yet brilliant work in Desert Sessions, many artists from several backgrounds have come forth to be a part of this project.

Wow. jones the bones you're one stupid piece of shit. If anyone stumbles onto this review, I will admit I did a terrible job, I was stoned at the time, and maybe drunk? I seem to recall more drug references in relation to the "feel good hit of the summer" as a track and an album. This review was severly edited and cut, it was much longer but i'm sure it was still staunched gibberish. Score still stands, just buy the damn record already. QOTSA is a pretty BA band. I don't care for their latest effort though. Bands like Fu Manchu and Nebula are great stoner rock. not to regret. suicide is not the answer I guess its suicide again for me! qotsa is a good band with or without nick! I kind of picture Jerry Only as Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. You know, with the gold chain, sweatpants, flip-flops and the silly car. better than the dwarves? But what about Jerry Only? I feel bad that he was eating and counting his money, then interrupted over the Armstrong-Dalle divorce. this is my favorite album to listen to when i'm stoned....... as far as i know, the "c-c-c-c cocaine" part is sung by rob halford (sp?) never got the appeal of some stoner jacking off a guitar. i saw them open for nin a couple weekends ago, didn't do anything for me and i've seen them a few other times. always seemed pretty boring, though it was kind of cool seeing dave grohl play drums Nope, i tried downloading this again and couldn't be fucked. Still shit. So far nobody has mentioned the best thing about this album, which is the godlike genius of Mark Lanegan. Wow, what a shitty review. you give a good score and a shit review for a classic record. maybe it'd help those open minded few if you explained why the record is worth checking out. lazy wanker. I tried to like this record, 'Feel good hit of the summer' was more amusing than interesting (what's so cool about some stoner-come-chemical-freak yelling co-co-co-co-co-co-co-caine?). The only good thing about this is that Nick Oliveri is still awesome after all these years and Josh Homme fucked Tim Armstrong's wife, making him the coolest bastard in my book. For the time being. Meh. Isn't this the same lame guy who won't download a single mp3 before he buys an album and then complains when other people do? where are all the Wesley Willis reviews? one of the worst reviews on this site. seriously, you hated them when they were all over the radio two years ago, but now you love 'em? haha "I may not be the most studied and articulate 21 year old but I have a sense of "good" music." not to regret. i think the problem most people have is, you didnt really review the album...at all Haha, what the fuck was that thing about Skinhead Rob and Jerry Only two comments back? What was I thinking? I submitted this like 5 months ago. I guess i'm a "fanboy" when it comes to Josh Homme. But I hear alot of comments that people don't like hearing "song-by-song" reviews. The idea was to inform people who have heard of QOTSA but never listened to this record. If I wanted to force my opinion on you I would have told you my favorite songs on here (such as In the Fade). Fuck what's "punk" or not, this is just damn good music. I may not be the most studied and articulate 21 year old but I have a sense of "good" music. Hi Everyone, This is Lindsey Nagle, Skinhead Rob spokewoman reporting from beautiful downtown Los Angeles. We all know there is still ill feelings over the Armstrong-Dalle divorce. i say just stop doing a "classic review" day but continue to include the best (or the marginaly acceptable?) of the classics with the current reviews, 3 times a week. that way you filter out garbage like this. This review was pretty good, but here's how I would make it better: It's kind of mind boggling to see paltry and completely insubstantial "reviews" like this on this site and know that there are piles of reviews just sitting in the queue that get passed over three times a week. wow. this review is hilarious. this album deserves a 9 or a 10 because its that good this album deserves a 9 or a 10 because its that good People really need to stop being such fanboys when writing reviews. Just because you enjoyed the band in high school doesn't mean it's deserving of a 9 or a 10. Get over your nostalgia. "If any of you were to actually step foot into the cesspool that's currently pre-2005 reviews in the queue, you'd drown. There's so little worth posting we're probably either discontinuing this very, very soon or using the space to post 2005 reviews." "and for open-minded individuals like us" Holy shit. I just noticed there is not a single 2005 review right now. We are really running out of ideas or bands. Or maybe we are all way to lazy to actually write reviews of new bands that have their efforts this year. I for one did submit a 2005 review...I Am The Avalanche's self titled debut. It was a horrible review I must admit. But I goddamn tried. feel good hit of the summer does still pwn (assuming that that's a good thing) Feel Good Hit of the Summer still pwns I'm going to start writing more of those classic reviews. this record is tits! So I can assume from your comment, Brian, that there are reviews that are worse than this one. That being the case should I even bother submitting older reviews or should I just basically consider it a lost cause? granted, the review may have been short and not in the highest of quality. but this album does kick some serious ass, people. you just gotta give it a spin... If any of you were to actually step foot into the cesspool that's currently pre-2005 reviews in the queue, you'd drown. There's so little worth posting we're probably either discontinuing this very, very soon or using the space to post 2005 reviews. "Where in the hell did that quality control button go..." I got a friend who can't quit rambling about this CD. He, mind you, is a die hard Queens Of the Stone Ages fan and I believe he flew to the states for 2 days just to see this band live (..We Live in Mexico. No, not all people who live in mexico talk about chile and mariachis) So for a band to have that big of an impulse on a listener gains my respect. hell If I had the money I would surely fly to the states to watch a Blood Brothers concert anyday. I'm no particular fan of this type of music. But hey, if someone who went on a over 4 hour plane ride JUST to see this band its gotta count for something...right? Where in the hell did that quality control button go... "Why the fuck is this useless band being "reviewed" on PunkNews?" Hope you didn't overexert yourself on this one buddy. Why the fuck is this useless band being "reviewed" on PunkNews? what a horrible review. why dont they filter shit like this out? Ok, for this to be a review there needs to be comments on the music. So there the fuck are they? Can any idiot just submit pointless bullshit and call it a review? Reminds me of Filters album cover I like this album. This review, however, seems to approach the reader from the angle that they must already know about QOTSA and this album. Sure lotsa people heard about Songs (and why not it was fucking good), But this isn't that album. There should have been much more detail in this review since the "hit" on this album was "Lost Art of Keeping a Secret" (or "feel Good Hit of the Summer") which wasn't all that well known at all. Seems like a cheap move just to push a Queens review into the archieves. no one knows I thought this album was shit, I actually bought this when it first came out when it was really cheap but I just couldn't get into it. brilliant review I really dig this band. The new one is a lot slower, but still good. You only wrote one line that had anything to do with the actual album. my favorite QOTSA disc. they never quite lived up to the potential of this album, though 'Songs for the Deaf' was almost as great. |
