The Clash; you may not like them, but you have to admire them. Along with the Sex Pistols, the New York Dolls and others, they brought punk to the "mainstream" and made what real punk now stands for. But more than being a simple punk band, they brought ska, dub and reggae into their music, bringing ska-punk along in their stride.

Oh yeah, and the version of "Know Your Rights" here is even better than the studio one on Wombat Cock. Yes, the Clash are the shit. "I fail to see what's so punk rock about the Clash. I mean, everyone's heard of them. My grandmother knows about them for chrissakes, and she's 75. Isn't punk based on being unknown? Fuck the Clash; they're bigger than Good Charlotte." if you dont like something, shut your mouth and try and do better. this applies to EVERYTHING in life, not just music. I'll confess enjoying Mondo Bizzarro as well. The "Touring" RNR high school rip off, and it's funny because if you listen to "I can't wait till tomorrow", it's Misfits I turned into a Martian with different words. That always made me laugh. Gabba Gabba Hey Whoops, my bad. Maybe I should post after I've had a cuppa coffee next time. Okay, Animal Boy DOES have "Somebody Put Something In My Drink" & the title track, but Halfway to Sanity has Bop Til You Drop, Weasel Face, Garden of Serenity, I Know Better Now, and Go Lil Camaro Go. I LOVE Too Tough to Die. Dangers of Love, No Go, Chasin' the Night are some of my favorite underated Ramones pop songs. I guess we're off topic here, but it's cool when people actually know good music. I don't know, I always felt that Animal Boy was the best of the Richie era. Too Tough To Die has a few too many slooooooow songs and Halfway to Sanity seems kind of bland. Maybe I'm just biased because Animal Boy was my first Ramones album outside of the first four. It's Go little Camero Go. And Merry Xmas was on Brain Drain, their next album. Both albums are great....Animal Boy does have Something to Believe In though.... "Funny thing: I used to think Joe Stummer's lyrics sucked, but then looked at the rest of the 76-78 bands... I think only Crass stands up to them in that department, and maybe the Sex Pistols. And Crass sure as hell could not play as well." "Woah woah woah, you like Halfway to Sanity better than Animal Boy? Are you nuts?!?!" LushJ you are right on again. I don't just kiss your ass cuz I was a criminals fan either. I don't understand this trend, especially among newer punk fans, to dismiss older bands as being overrated and any fans of those bands as merely trying to "prove cred." Although I'm a fan of older punk, there are plenty of bands I think have an unjustified legacy, but I have no interest in bitching on every review page. It smacks of simply trying to loudly justify why you don't know anything pre-Nirvana than actually expressing an opinion, and as the Godfather said, there's a website for kids like that... Woah woah woah, you like Halfway to Sanity better than Animal Boy? Are you nuts?!?! "Musically, you're dead to me if you play in a shitty band like the Frisk!" Yeah, anyone who doesn't like the Clash for one of their forms (be it punk, pop-rock, hip hop or white boy dub) is is undeniably musically underdeveloped. Musically, you're dead to me if you have heard the Clash and can completely dismiss them. Ditto Devo. Sorry, that's the way it is. I think that's echoed by others here. They aren't necessarily the greatest every single moment ("Cut The Crap", 4/5ths of "Sandinista"), but that makes them even better 'cause they AREN'T superhuman. They just don't know about them, that's the thing. If you don't like obscure modern punk bands, you're not a true punk fan; you're just one of those lamers who think that anything old is automatically superior than anything release in the last twenty years. "i've sent the grim reeper after your ass." "I hate this fucking band. Generic pop rock. London Calling is the most overrated album of all time. the godfather found a website for people that dont like the clash: http://www.absolutepunk.net/ sorry, i meant to include post-graduate know it all twats as well. "who in the fuck doesn't like the clash? pull your fucking heads out of your mommies asses you pre-teen twats." jebus you people suck. who in the fuck doesn't like the clash? pull your fucking heads out of your mommies asses you pre-teen twats. Man I can't believe all this Clash dissing. When I was younger I only liked their first album because it was the only one "punk" enough for me. When I got older I learned a lot about music, studied a lot of history, and traveled more of the world and then the songs REALLY hit home, musically and lyrically. LIstening to Spanish Bombs in the south of the Andalucia part of Spain while drinking tinto veranos in the sun is about as awesome as life can get. The Clash - From Here to Eternity: Live Someone stole this from me... the godfather meant *staple the godfather says 'london calling' is a stable in any punk rock collection *steam Superdude, This review was pretty good, but here's how I would make it better: actually, all the songs I said were political are related to politics or social problems. London Calling less, but all the others really do. "London Calling" overrated? wow....dude.... The Deftones are a guilty pleasure of mine. I still haven't picked up the b-sides/DVD yet though. What's with all of the anti-Clash sentiment? You people who hate them are either 15 or have really bad taste in music. Chinatown, you call them generic pop rock, but also think that Twin Cinema is the album of the year? there was an around the fur review for like 2 hours it was awesome.... The only good review though the rest of were hillary duff limp bizkit velvet revolver new 311 cd and some other stuff the clash is possibly the most overrated band in history I'm surprised more people aren't clamoring for the Steven Seagal review (seriously). I was laughing my ass off. The leaders are keeping things hush-hush, hoping that his will blow over and we'll just all forget or get tired of asking about the leaked Duff review. Brian, Aubin, and Adam, we demand answers! But ya, I love the deftones, so I'm definately interested in reading about it or hearing more about it. Wasn't there a really long Hilary Duff review as well? wtf? So what was the Deftones review? Someone please explain. Also, it seems that this has happened a few times before (reviews getting posted then taken off). What's up with that? Also, From Here to Infirmary was the name of an episode of Itchy and Scratchy. This version of "Know Your Rights" is great- the music just clicks on this version. Something about it being a stripped down live version, I guess. For live records, this one stands up there with Ramones "It's Alive"! The rendition of Guns Of Brixton is sloppy but still pretty cool. I know I might get some hate for this but: I hate this fucking band. Generic pop rock. London Calling is the most overrated album of all time. terrible review. could you use the word "great" a few more times? "Bring back the Deftones review!!!!" clash is the most over rated band ever.... Thanks, and I hope you do well on your mid-term The title "From Here to Eternity" originally comes from a 1953 movie about military men in Hawaii in 1941 right before Pearl Harbor. Also unrequited love and backstabbing, etc. innocence about to be lost. did they get it from here? So this is where The Alkaline Trio got "From Here to Infirmary". Main, I wish they they were still a good band. Now, really, no one actually thinks (and this includes the youth) that Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, etc. are "the symbols of punk." To the person below: the first sentence of this review should be changed from "The Clash; you may not like them, but you have to admire them" to "The Clash; you may not like them, but then you should be gassed." Rancid Sucks (And The Clash Sucked Too) I love the Clash, but this album is really just sub-par. in all honesty, i don't listen to this one that much. i think the track list leans to heavily on the first album and ignores a lot of their catalouge all together. what's there is good, but i still prefer the studio versions most of the time. the packet is a fun read though. tiger army is much more orginal and better The last Joe Strummer record is better than the entire clash catalog. Yes, people give me shit for saying that all the time, but it is so...fucking....true. Rancid Sucks (And The Clash Sucked Too) yeah, I bashed blink 182, but not for not being original (which they aren't really anyway), but for being THE mainstream name in punk music. When you ask a non-punk fan if they like punk, they'll probably say:" what, like Blink 182?". That's irritating. Part of what made this one so perfect was that it didn't turn into a live "greatest hits" record, but covered a lot of their best material. A lot of these live albums turn into a singles showcase, but this one really manages to provide a solid overview of the band and it doesn't hurt that it sounds amazing. "Be influenced, have their own sound, stick to it and then influence others." Bring back the Deftones review!!!! Wow, awful review. I love this album. While they put a little too many songs off the first album on there, it's still got great sound quality. " and other great songs: "London's Burning" (with some great vocals by the great Joe Strummer)" is "spanish bombs" on this? id give this a 10, but its hard for me to give any live album a perfect score A poster of this album cover is the only thing on any of the walls at my place. This is a ridiculously good album. I got it when I was still kind of new to punk rock, so it helped me to appreciate the Clash a lot. Some of their studio recordings were still a bit "out there" for me to appreciate at the time, but when I heard them in a stripped down setting I grew to know and love them. Then I went back to the records (Sandinista! in particular) and loved them. Crappy review but i love this cd. This score is for "Straight to Hell" good review, good band |
