If you haven't seen or heard of Fear before, I recommend immediately proceeding to the link to their performance on "SNL" in 1981. To understand Fear, you have to appreciate their utterly devestating live shows and intensity. This record is a testament to an age of glorious punk rock now decades old, a decade of brilliant musicianship being combined with a simplistic, punk aesthetic. Fear's songs were written around Spit Stix's drumming. A former jazz-fusion, Chick Corea worhipping player, he applied his skill to a genre that is cursed with the stereotype of being music for untalented, angry teenagers.

Lee Ving didnt come out of the closet, he is married as far as I know. But in a related story I was watching the movie Clue, you know the one from like '85, and Lee Ving is in it. I almost shit, and then i had to sit through that dumb movie because i needed to see the credits to believe it. and Flea was in Fear at one point btw... Love that album, cool band. Lee Ving is the man. Scary didn't lee ving come out of the closet? hey hitler, lee ving might have killed some viet cong, he's a vietnam veteran, you know, but i don't think he killed any jews, but if hitler was in the undertones i would still like them new york's alright if you like drunks in your doorway, if you wanna get mugged and murdered, if you're a homosexual "So if Hitler started a punk band who 'sounded good' would you like them too?" So if Hitler started a punk band who 'sounded good' would you like them too? I care. You dumbass. "the requiem!! watch out for these guys. they are so cool man. i have never heard music like this. oh wait a min.... i have. you fucking shit-fuckers sound like everyother band. i like the vocoder. thats really shnazzy, did you borrow that from ashley simpson? oh and by the way ashley simpson is not punk, nor good charlotte. seriously if you didnt post shit on message boards that do not pertain to the subject you might not be faced with such resentment." who cares if it's racist, sexist, homophobe or whatever, that's the whole point of the band, idiots discussing, it's racist and sexist, the record is a brilliant punkalbum, say no more and fuck you all "LOVE IT. you're a fuckin retard if you don't" If this singer is sexist/homophobic I hate this band even more. Not terrible, but definately not my thing. haha blink did open for fear once in NY, tom delonge said this" we opend for fear here when we first started as a band, and that's what we felt at the show, fear' More like the best I've ever played PERIOD, I love that game. F.E.A.R. is the best computer game you'll play all year. Requiem didn't even tell us that they're having the biggest story ever in Orange County, or whatever the fuck Diana was talking about. That ADVISORY sticker didn't even exist in '82. fuck fear. what kind of punk band has a parental advisory label on their record? "Other than that though, it's either PURELY humorous and sarcastic.....or utterly homophobic, racist and moronic" so, uh. we have a new diana gone wrong? Is this the album with all the songs about beer on it? i love this band. one of the best. ian's story was a beast. the requiem!! watch out for these guys. they are so cool man. i have never heard music like this. oh wait a min.... i have. you fucking shit-fuckers sound like everyother band. i like the vocoder. thats really shnazzy, did you borrow that from ashley simpson? oh and by the way ashley simpson is not punk, nor good charlotte. seriously if you didnt post shit on message boards that do not pertain to the subject you might not be faced with such resentment. Just checked out this band, The Requiem and frankly, it sucks. Hi guyz, if you enjoy good emo punk music plz check out my band! we're getting signed very soon!!! but plz, only people with good taste in punk emo should check it out cuz we rock so hard and have TONS of emotiun! feel free to leave a messuge and let us kno how much u enjoyd it! It's doubtful that happened, though they're surrounded by rumors about all kinds of stuff. They were probably affiliated with motorcycle gangs and/or chapters of the Hell's Angels- for instance they dedicate a song or 2 to things like "Venice Chapter 2" on the live recordings that I mention below. I definitely get a biker vibe from them. Very tight band musically speaking......as in they were not very loose at their playing....it was direct and an assualt on the sense. Other than that though, it's either PURELY humorous and sarcastic.....or utterly homophobic, racist and moronic. As great as songs like "I Don't Care About You" and "I Love Livin In The City" are, I have a hard time listening to any of them after hearing that they played at a Klan rally....how UN rock n roll. "This was the record that got me into punk rock. I'm 38 now and still consider myself to be a punk." i love livin' in the city. that's all i have to say. You'll notice that this video features the first televised stage dive ever. Jamaica's Alright If You Like Homophobes mmm mmm mmm... An incredible album, featuring one of the best punk rock vocalists of all time... When Fear played on "Saturday Night Live," Ian, did you go down to "Saturday Night Live" and check it out in New York with Rollins and the gang? say what you want about lee ving being an asshole and a sexist and a homophobe or whatever. but there is no denying the greatness of this album. i'm really surprised it hasnt been reviewed, its one of those classic punk albums... i remember really liking fear until i watched "Decline of Western Civilization" and it was just them up on stage calling kids fags and spitting. If I remember correctly I remember Ian talking about that show once in an interview. Let's play find Ian Mackaye and Henry Rollins in the video! The music is still pretty off-beat on this album. The only problem with FEAR are the idiot fans that take the sexism seriously. I have been trying to get into punk records that are a bit older, but not quite as popular as acts like the Ramones, Minor Threat, etc... Someone suggested this album to me and I really enjoy it. That's terrible Ben, really. I don't know about Fear, but I know I love No Fear. I don't know about Fear, but I know I love No Fear. see how everytime the word homosexual comes in the song, the guy avoids the microphone.. was it a banned word back then? self-censoring? mmh.. That SNL video blew my fucking mind. I've seen maybe one performance that comes even close to having that level of crowd interaction. Wow, that video was awesome. I wish shows were still like that. Now everything around here is just crowds of kids, barricades and assholes. I loved the local shows where every person got into it like this. Fear sucks. It's overrated. yeah, that video was cool....best part was ian mackaye skanking....i don't care how cool you are, EVERYONE looks foolish when they skank lol This is amazing stuff. Even though "We Destroy The Family" and "Getting Brush" kind of suck, the other songs still make it worth a ten. This morning I woke up humming "Bomb The Russians"- and slapped their 2nd record "More Beer" on the turntable. Both of these 1st 2 Fear records are essential. Afterwards, go to the live radio ones ("Fear Live for the Record" and "Living With Fear") or "American Beer". and in that video, please direct your attention to one young ian mackaye on the right side skanking/stagediving about 30 seconds in. I saw Blink open for Fear in like 92 and you could tell they were scared shitless the entire set. great record. lee ving was a fucking asshole. surprise surprise! thanks for the snl link, ive been looking for ages for that thing, didnt think to check youtube... Classic, I'm very suprised that no one reviewed it until now. Fear! This was the record that got me into punk rock. I'm 38 now and still consider myself to be a punk. Not too well versed on Fear. I like what I've heard of em though. I tried to copy and paste my opinion on this record from Word and the site said I blocked for "spamming." Weird. That video is so awesome. |
