I always figured Weezer was one of the most reviewed artists on this entire site, and while I'm correct - it's pretty much just a mass of reviews for 'The Green Album', along with one for 'Pinkerton' (and not a very good one, mind you). So I figured, why not review this album? I'm actually a new fan to Weezer, and this was the second album I decided to buy after the Green Album. I almost didn't, because I didn't enjoy the Green Album too much - except for the two mainstream singles, 'Hash Pipe' and 'Island in the Sun'. I was hoping The Blue Album wouldn't be like this, and I was right.

This album came out in 1994, and that particular time in my life I didn't really listen to the radio much at all, and when I did it was not the generic alternative station that I listen to know whenever I'm in a car. What this means is, I have no idea what songs on this album were singles, and so I had an unbiased point of view when listening to this album - ie I didn't just skip from single to single, going to each of the songs that I already knew.

After listening to it a few times, I had my favorite songs, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were all the singles. Still, I enjoyed the entire album. It was beautifully composed, and some of the songs really struck me - in particular 'Say it 'aint So'. Some of the other songs that stuck in my head were 'Undone', 'Buddy Holly', 'Surf Wax America', and my other favorite - 'In the Garage'. The songs not listed weren't filler sounding material however, which I did consider some of The Green Album to be. I actually didn't even consider Weezer a punk band, but don't worry, it's not one of those 'punker than thou' deals. They're just really melodic and somewhat poppy. But you know what, they're also one of the most beautiful sounding bands I've listened to. I'm sure many of you have already heard this album, and you've probabaly already got opinions on it. For those of you who havn't heard it though, I strongly recommend getting it. I put it right up there along with 'Pinkerton', with 'The Green Album' following. Any Weezer album I've heard has still been a high quality release, well worth the $14.99 I had to use pay for it.

    My Score:

Why would you pay 15 dollars for a cd download the music for free if the artist doesn't make it available for 5 dollars or less cause cd's take like less than a dollar to press. If it ain't cheap it ain't punk.

this came out the year after I graduated high school and i hated it then, mostly because it was trendy. now 12 years on, I can be more objective and its just..ok. Rivers Cuomo seems like a cool guy though.

Whoever says they dont have energy live needs to see them on their current tour with the foo fighters. I guess its because the foo fighters have so much energy but weezer was absolutly incredible when they played live. I saw them in Philly and even though there was some sound issues it was the most fun i have had a large venue show and second most fun in general i have had at a show.

I like Weezer. Pinkerton is one of my personal faves. The Blue Album has a lot of catchy tunes on it but it's not as GREAT as most of you clueless kids would believe. I swear, you all act like the lyrics to Jonas and Say it ain't So are bible verses at their shows. If I hear Say it ain't So one more time on the radio, I'm gonna shoot one of you dumb emo kids between your Buddy Holly glasses.

Dude, what he said was that there was NOT any filler on the blue album, unlike the green album. Read the sentence again.

No offense, but fuck you for saying the rest was mostly filler. This whole album is fucking brilliant. My Name Is Jonas is one of the greatest songs ever written. Only in Dreams kicks ass also.

OK I can understand not hearing the whole Blue Album but seriously back in the day people couldnt get enough of Buddy Holly, how could you not have heard it or at least heard OF it. Either way the green album blows my asshole and pinkerton is kinda ok... this is by far the best weezer album, but still not terribly great and definitley not worth 14.99. I lost it back in the day and bought it again for like 5.99.

Pretty good band. But, one of the most energy-lacking live bands, ever. They make Blink182's live show look wild and insane.

This album gets a 10 but fuck Weezer. Anyone else noticed that no matter where you go you can't find the Green album for less than $14.99? Greedy, geek-rock bastards....
P.S. Pinkerton is shittier than what that Mexican food did to my stomach last night.

Truly landmark album in music as a whole. I mean, for some reason this band is associated with punk and I think it's great. This obviously put Weezer on the map. EVERY song is fabulous and doesn't deserve less then a 10. Hell here's some imaginary stars to make it more than 10 *star* *star* *star* there we go
