Could it be any more unlikely that this disc would procure a place so close to my heart? I can't remember the last time that MTV actually got me hip to a band, but there I was, the day after seeing the video for "Roll On," still unable to extract the song's crack-like hook from my brain, at the used record store scouring for a copy, realizing full well that this was likely the only decent track on the disc. Could I have possibly been more wrong? Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
someone's got a boner for the living end Ha, I watched Cheats a couple weeks ago, my friend bought the DVD at Borders. I was like whoa, Living End, cool. God, I love this album. Has anyone seen the movie Cheats? they use The Living End in it like 400 times. I think they could've released this album as 'The soundtrack to Cheats' this cd is great. nothign bad to say about this. just great. greatest thing to ever come from australia This (and rancid's life won't wait) were the cd's that got me into punk. It will always have a place in my heart. Hey awsome... this is a good cd, not a 10, but good. there next cd should be even better, because they seem to get better with every cd. "i think the living end is extremely overrated.- fathead" Oh yeah, I liked the first album better, but this one was still decent. Uhh.... I'm pretty sure the dude comparing the Living End to Blink and Green Day was talking more about their popularity than their sound. umm, im the guy who wrote just before, that was sposed to be a full star rating, and i forgot to mention that Roll On is much better than the first album, it's more musically mature, and very fucking cool for it. first up, the living end are nothing like blink 182, and whoever said that needs to listen more carefully, and secondly, they aint like greenday either. Note, i have nothing against those two bands, but they are not close at all in comparison to the living end. I'm a 45 (yes, 45!!) y.o. punk rock music lover who's been listening to this shit ever since I first heard the Sex Pistols on the radio (yes, they were actually played on some commercial FM rock stations back in 1978-79), so I have heard alot of music during that time. The Living End's first album on Reprise is a good album, so I thought I get this one, their 2nd... WOW!! It didn't hit me at first, but this CD grew on me really fast! I have been listening to this almost daily for about 3 months now. I might not listen to it for maybe 2 days and then I HAVE TO get my Living End fix and listen to it a least another half-dozen times straight! I'll put it to you simply: of all the music and bands I have listened to in my lifetime, I would seriously say this is the BEST album I have ever heard! It is THAT GOOD! I had to think long and hard what musical influences I hear here, the band is so tight and diverse and they rock like hell!!! If I had to describe this to the uninitiated I would say: the Sex Pistols meets the (old) Buzzcocks meets The Clash with a dash of Brian Setzer and a pinch of Sham 69, that's about as close as I can get to their sound on this. What more can I say? I just hope one day I might be able to see them play live if they tour the states. what can i say? i think this band is one of the best new punk rock bands in a long time. I stress the "rock" part as equally as i stress the "punk" part. Yes, these guys are a punk band, an excellent punk band. However, they take so many other influences. "Fly Away" from i think the S/T uses Rockabilly influences. "Riot on Broadway" uses swing (if there's anyone out there with his head completely in the sand when it comes to other musical styles besides punk, swing is a type of jazz from the 20's (right?). Brian Setzer brought back a new wave of it a few years ago. They do a cover of U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday (i think the old U2, and still the current live U2 is one of the best fucking punk bands out there. ever.) These guys use a shit load of influences, yet still manage to play punk songs every time. I read in an interview that Chris, when he practices, usually just practices jazz standards or something like that. That's pretty cool i think. It's nice to know that there are bands out there that have an appreciation for other types of music. not just punk. Actually Frenzal Rhomb are more like Blink in Aus, Living End more like, um, Green Day I guess, though not as popular anymore. ( you know how mainstream tastes love one thing one day, forget it the next) living end are like blink 182 in over here in Oz only not as gay This album is excellent but their S/T is 100 time better cause it's more punk. Anyway, Roll On is excellent. If you don't like punk, even buy this disc cause the guitar is wonderful! Plus I did a review of this record already..do the s/t album or something danielson, you write excellent reviews. but, i think the living end is extremely overrated.- fathead |
