It’s always nice when you discover a band (or album) that hits you in a way much like a breath of fresh air after a long night in a crowded bar. When I first listened to The Power of Failing. by Mineral, I was really impressed with them musically, just the way they sounded so cohesive and how at any point in time I could find myself humming some of the bass or guitar parts in my head. Too bad they only lasted through the `90s; they still made an impact however on how indie and emotional music would be made afterwards.

Definitely a great album, but EndingSerenade just hits me so much more. totally not into sappy ass bands like this. thats just me though sorry, but i don't think any of these "contemporaries" were even close to Mineral I love the music, but Simpsons vocals annoy the shit out of me. There were much better contemporaries in the mid-90's midwestern explosion: Christie front drive leading that group obviously. why do you think "end serendading" is better? can't just be because the productions better. this album is great, but endserenading beats the shit out of it. for anyone that didn't pick up on the whole religious vibe, have you never listened to Dolorosa ? Finding out that the some of the lyrics were Christian was devastating. "this album has nothing to do w/ jesus." 4 pizza boys gone rock (or whatever the liner notes say), and it doesn't get much better. "If I Could" is my gem. Feeding5000: No, it means that your music snobbery has hit another high. yeah they liked jesus but so did Sense Field and I dig that pussy shit too. it's about time someone reviewed this record, it's absolutely beautiful. but how can you leave "if i could" off of the highlight list? every time i hear that song i'm stopped in my tracks. hauntingly gorgeous. I like EndSerenading more but this still is one solid album. Heck I'll travel if Mineral ever does a reunion tour. I think I like emo now...haven't heard this, but I'm into like, early screamo (Heroin, Saetia). Does that mean I'm no longer punker-then-thou? both of their records are insanely perfect and contrast brilliantly with one another. the length of the songs is perfect, consistently allowing for one of those nearly-hypnotic grooves to set in. Terribly surprised `this wasn't reviewed already. Incredible album this album has nothing to do w/ jesus. Wow. I didn't think it was possible for a band that liked Jesus to get nothing but good comments here. are these guys jesus jumpers? i haven't listened to this album in years but maybe i will now. Holy crap do I miss this band, they are so good. I couldnt imagine how big they would be now if they were still around. This album is great, everything Chris Simpson' touches is gold. Absolute steller album, like scott said a reunion would be awesome. this album has "slower" on it, which guarantees it five stars. i mean that's a song that says, "this record is perfect, but here's a song that makes you want to redefine what perfection can be, just because it's that fucking good." one of my favorite albums ever. i think i may have listened to it more than Diary. absolutely perfect...one of the best ever One of the greatest albums of all time. With all the recent talk of emo and how it's bad, I bet none of those kids, parents or police officers have heard this record. forgive the last score. it's about time someone reviewed this record, it's absolutely beautiful. but how can you leave "if i could" off of the highlight list? every time i hear that song i'm stopped in my tracks. hauntingly gorgeous. I like EndSerenading a little more than this because it has better production, but this record's still great. This is one band reunion I'd kill for, since I never got to see them in the '90s. |
