"Oh my god! Noooo Sick of it All moved to Fat, they're going to suck now" That sums up most everyones' opinions I heard prior to this album being released. But to hell with all the naysayers, SOIA proved and has proved in the past that a label change wouldn't affect their sound at all.

But yeah, I admit I did have a little doubt; I thought to myself "I have been an SOIA fan for some 6 odd years now, I knew this band would always stick to their NYC hardcore roots". and that's precisley what they did.

My faith was restored! 15 fast, furious, and angry anthems that only SOIA can pump out with such power. They are sure here to spread their message and let everyone know they're a huge force to be reckoned with.

I'm not going to call it a perfect album..1 or 2 songs lack their usual rawness, but then others take you straight back to their very first release. It's a little mixed up, I think they wanted to serve up some straight forward hardcore..but put a little twist on some songs. But not enough however to completely change their sound. SOIA has always been able to take 95% old school NYC style hardcore and mix in whatever other styles they feel fit in.

"Let Go", "Falter", "Guilty", "Sanctuary", "Morally Confused", "Pass the Buck", and "Drastic" stand out on this album...Most others are good as well, but what can I say??? I like my music with mad speed so those songs were the first to get my attention.

If you want a break from all the Newer style, more pop influenced hardcore check this or any of their fine releases out. One band whom you can always count on to bring you the same brand of music everytime ( which is good in some cases.) It's definitley no "Built to Last" but it's worth hearing nonetheless.

You reminded me of a show i saw at the anthrax in connecticut back in 85'or 86'with youth of today,76%uncertain,skeletal ambitian, and agnostic front..... Great show!!!

    My Score:

Yeah the youth crew days were the height of the NYC scene. While it continues to thrive, and more and more bands are getting into it everyday...It will NOT compare to those days. Take bands like Bold, underdog, youth of today, judge, Chain of strength, Supertouch, Gorilla Biscuits, and sick of it all...man that was hardcore in it's true heyday.

Pennywise is the epitome of bro-core... i have never lived in new york so i don't really know the scene there....

the fact that NYC Hardcore preaches unity is an awesome thing...i just can't get into the music at all...

Choking Victim was an awesome band though....

    My Score:

Bro-Core? Eh.....You make it sound like these bands are frat boys. If your talking about unity, yeah, a lot of these bands are into untiy. Do you happen to live in NY? If you lived here during the mid-late 80's to early 90's and were involved in the scene, you'd understand why so many bands stressed for unity. Riots, guns, knives, fights, tearing apart clubs, all a common thing back then, so yes unity is a good thing. I don't know many people from the city that would call all the NY bands bro-core. Here's the thing, when NYHC bands are good, their great, when their bad, their awful
If anything I'd call Pennywise Bro-Core, but I really wouldn't call any band that.

    My Score:

Yes, a lot of NYHC bands do sound the same, but most of these bands pride themselves on live shows, which, now most of the bands are past their primes, but back in day bands like Sick of it All could blow almost any band off the stage.

Not all New York bands sound the same exactly, NY has a lot of scenes, from the gutterpunk Casualties scene to the ska-core Choking Victim scene (Choking Victim are the best bands to come out of New York in years and years)
I recommend Victim in Pain, Blood Sweat and No tears, Start up today, Lower East Side, Age of Quarrel as some top notch NYHC albums, but if you really can't get into NYHC it, check out Choking Victim.

Lou Koller said in an interview that he was really sick at the time this album was being recorded. That kinda made sense to me. I don't hate it, but it doesn't have the power or intesity that Yours Truly or Built to Last had.

This is a damn fine record, but I think Yours Truly is better. Good review.
