If you go to a ska show these days, it seems like you're seeing one of the following: (1) The band that used to be ska eight years ago but ditched the horn section for the last few albums (see: Goldfinger); (2) The band that stayed true to its ska roots and just manages to tread water (see: Mustard Plug); (3) The fresh-faced ska band that sounds like a copy of a type-two ska band (see: Suburban Legends). Aside from a few possible sub-genres, the fourth, final and best kind of ska band these days is the fresh-faced, attention-grabbing, "sounds-like-nothing-before" kind of ska band. These bands are rare, I'll admit, but the best example is clearly Bomb the Music Industry!.

I think its funny how Bomb the Music Industry! is classified as ska, but they really aren't ska at all. They do make good music though. I saw them live with the full band and they fucked up a bunch which made some comedy but they weren't really all that impressive. That is not to say that I am not a huge fan of the band, but I think they just get far too much credit for things. As for the album, this is probably my least favorite by them. Album Minus Band is their best. It's not dead. I think he's just offended I don't wear the shirt in public very often. But it's true, BTMI is skaboom. I'll have to check them out....until I hear them, I am safe in saying that Catch-22 is the best (and one of the only) ska band around. "this joke is officially dead to me" as a band that actually comes through the punk wasteland that is nashville, i give btmi mad props. Not a fan of ska unless it's The Aquabats or Operation Ivy. stevejones and miff SUCK!....c'mon, back me up here SuperRad... yeh that did seem a bit wierd to me cant get enough of this album! cant wait for the next. anyone else not surprised that a user named SuperRad would backup a user named SuperSkaBro? Thanks SuperRad. cool Seemed like a decent review to me. Everyone's a critic. I spent my four years in St. Louis just going to see the washed-up ska bands that never came to Indianapolis when they weren't washed up. Wow. I'm getting a lot of negative feedback on this one. Bring it on. At least the comments for BTMI are good! "ironic laptop ska" Love it! This is music for people who like ska. But BTMI! isn't really ska at all. I meant to throw "able to" between "are" and "sell." "I see in this band the future of punk rock and ska, as well as that of the music industry. This band is in contradiction to all that the industry stands for, and, if they continue to grow in popularity, then maybe the industry will have to do some soul-searching as to their whole approach to music." "I see in this band the future of punk rock and ska, as well as that of the music industry. This band is in contradiction to all that the industry stands for, and, if they continue to grow in popularity, then maybe the industry will have to do some soul-searching as to their whole approach to music." The American Education System is ridiculous, and continues to be so year after year. Goldfinger never had a horn section. Reviewer thinks he knows ska, but does not. I've seen BTMI! twice: once in a Chicagoan basement in November 05 (those are on youtube! *plug plug plug*), and again at a really small venue on the northside. Both of those shows KILLED. Jeff knows how to roll live, and he's an amazing person to talk to. So for those that are worried whether or not a long drive would be worth it, I HIGHLY suggest that you make it, no matter what. If you got finals, fuck them. If you have a girlfriend, fuck her, and then run your ass to this show. If you got a wedding/funeral/birthday party to attend... you get the idea. fuckin wicked album This is a killer record. I'm glad I finally believed the hype from the people on this website and downloaded it a few months back. I liked this album. I didn't like this review. reviewer says "ska band" way to many times. also, is tehre some zany HTML shit goin on with the body of the review or is it just my comp? Are you serious? People actually enjoy this? How? oh, that's my score. this is some straight sickness right here, top 10 of 2006. my favourite album of last year this album is freakin awesome there are not only 3 types of ska bands out right To the first commenter: Are BTMI! worth seeing live? I mean... I like them as much as anyone else, but I've had several people tell me they just have a few members and play to backing tracks. I'd like to see them anyway, but I'd have to travel for the show and don't really know if it would really be worth a long drive. |
