Drag the River's It's Crazy. was one of the finest punk-based country albums of 2006. With the full-length having split the vocals between Chard Price (All) and Jon Snodgrass (Armchair Martian), this 7" focuses on Chad's work.

The A-side is "Beautiful and Damned," which was one of the strongest songs on It's Crazy.. It's a slow song which crawls along in a haunting fashion, stirring up many moments of what made Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska such a beautiful piece of work. Despite its slow tempo (or maybe because of it?), "Beautiful and Damned" creates a heavy atmosphere that forces the listener to absorb the spirit of the song.

The B-Side is "A Shame," which is exclusive to the 7". Much like the title track, it's slow and heavy on the steel guitar. Chad's vocals have just enough twang to make whatever he is saying seem remorseful.

Limited to only 500 hand-numbered copies with great artwork and packaging, this 7" is worth picking up even for those people who are hesitant to shell out $4.00 for two songs (but will go pay $.99/song on iTunes). Drag the River aren't for everyone who reads this site, but they've got some fans lurking around these pages and those fans should check this out.

Hand screening and constructing 500 of those babies took forever, but hopefully folks will think it was worth it.

    My Score:

this is one of a few 7 inches they put out around the same time. All were pretty great.

Everything they (and armchair martian for that matter) was really good.

wish i had seen them play.

i believe "leavin' in the morning" (my favourite track from 'it's crazy') is a lenny song. they're big fans, apparently.

If you like Drag the River you should check out Lenny & The Piss Poor Boys if you haven't already. It is Lenny Lashley from Boston's Darkbuster doing some country style #'s...I like it better then DTR (which I like quite a bit). I think DTR has actually covered a couple of their songs as well. I just recently picked up their album and its the tits...

also, suburban home is taking pre-orders for a split record they did with the dents, should come out in august i think. virgil also says they have another full-length recorded (he says it's their best yet) that may or may not come out somewhere down the road.

    My Score:

people should check drag the river out, because they're fucking awesome. the take on "beautiful and damned" is essentially the album version with the acoustic guitar dropped out of the mix so it's just the steel and chad's vocal. it is an awesome track, which works great in this fashion. "a shame" is sort of a middling track...not their best. but this band hasn't put out anything bad ever, so not their best still rules.

Nevermind, I'm stupid. This came out last year. Even so, it's too bad this band is gone.

Such a great band. Is this the last thing they're putting out?
