So many B-sides and rarities compilation arrive in the middle of a band's career, and if the band is a great one, the album itself tends to consequently be pretty good, in the least. But all too often it's also rendered incomplete months later by a new recorded track that makes it onto a 7" or compilation or what have you. Luckily, the wise, brash men of Kill Your Idols held off until their break-up to unleash their own 38-song monster of a comp1: Something Started Here, which collects the band's rare and out of print material and stands as a wonderful retrospective of the recently departed Long Island hardcore act.
1 - A 12-song, self-titled compilation with the similar intents of collecting "previously released and out of print material" was released in 2002 on Grapes of Wrath, however, as an import. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
amazing collection i saw these guys like 5 times, never did much for me and then suddenly at one of the shows it clicked and i loved it. unfortunately i don't think they played more than one or 2 more times in detroit after that. Scores for harvard style quoting and Kill Your Idols. Words can't describe how much I love this band (I was stupid enough to get their skull tattooed on me). Anyone else who pre-ordered the 7-inch box set from get outta town records not get it yet? ken, i always felt KYI to be much closer to charles bronson than the casualties KYI is awesome. I'm hoping for a reunion tour "This band covers a Voorhees song? I've been avoiding this band for like 10 years thinking they were bullshit casualties-core and they cover fucking Voorhees? Man, I blew it. I'll check them out now. This band covers a Voorhees song? I've been avoiding this band for like 10 years thinking they were bullshit casualties-core and they cover fucking Voorhees? Man, I blew it. I'll check them out now. Such a lengendary band, and they play their last ever show in a parking lot. Thats fucking awesome! i got The Skinnier Years and Henry Fiat's Open Sore for free when i subscribed to AMP, then the mag went down the gutter.i love this band on a scale of no bandanas to one bandana, this album scores one bandana. this deserves a full score, if you got the 7" box set you would see how great the set is itself. Please don't compare KYI to shitty pop punk. Thanks. RIP KYI. Scores for the last show. best band ever, miss em |
