Sequels: They’re never quite as good as the originals, are they? And for a band as (un)reliable as NOFX, who are as close to the mentally superior as they are to the mentally challenged (sometimes at the same time), and who don’t have to release a contract filler (like most live albums), "They Actually Gotten Worse Live!” could seem almost pointless.

A bit dissapointed in this album to be honest. The song selection is average, the banter just isn't funny and it really seems to highlight how little they've changed over the last 20 years. If you're looking for a great live punk album that won't be collecting dust on the shelf after 3 listens, go for 'I heard they suck live,' or pick up Lagwagon's Live In A Dive release. At least those guys are still funny. this album does alright, probably wont stay in my stereo for as long as some of their previous records, but its alright. "The sad thing about this album is that it could also serve as a reminder of how little NOFX have changed or experimented with their sound;" Finally picked this up and have had time to digest it. Here's my addition to the shit-pile: Yet another user review ... Nobody will care reading the whole bunch of reviews that are already here, but i still wanna throw my own. Feels like a complete show as opposed to bit cut and pasted from various nights (which, of course, it was). Yeah, the fadeout on "The Decline" sucks ... but it's not like it won't be available soon enough. I'll gladly pay a couple of bucks for that download From what I heard, Ryan Greene just kindof disappeared one day.. fat mike apparently owned half of motor studios.. and greene just left and is apparently in arizona or something now.. so that's why you see bill stevenson and jason livermore doing a lot of records at motor studios now as well as the blasting room. you know...nofx has never really been a band that i expected much more than the same thing from them and i'm fine with that. same with bad religion. i enjoy it when they make little excursions but i don't expect much more than that. so, ccp_,why is it that fat mike is rich and you are not? Christe I hate NOFX their time passed so long ago. I swear I can fart a better melody then what fat mike can sing. The coloured NOFX live and Propagandhi vinly are on sale NOW uhh, yea "more betterness" is NUFAN's best album by a fucking landslide. "hard rock bottom", while not as strong, has some of the best songs they've ever penned. "Really? Have you heard the last three NUFAN albums? That, to me, is the dictionary-definition of "letdown." and then having sex anally, i thought the asshole fell far from the tree I just noticed how many lyrical changes they make to "Parents These Days". Some funny shit in there. "I've almost convinced myself that No Use could make another great record if someone other than Ryan Greene produced it." 'I'll be over here waiting for the new No Use; they never disappoint.' This record rules, its meant for NOFX fans. Most of these songs have some lyrics and vocal melodies changed up and the liner notes are great. So is the banter. don't think NUFAN could write another decent album could they? last decent one was Making Friends I've almost convinced myself that No Use could make another great record if someone other than Ryan Greene produced it. I'm still really, really pissed about the decline... I think that is so dickish... but, whatever. Green Corn and Whoops I OD'd almost made up for it... so I don't know... I actually like Hard Rock Bottom even though I haven't listened to it in like four or five years. My view on the fading out of Decline... scott.. yeah i like them all.. b i can see why someone who liked older NUFAN would not like their newer stuff, if you're looking for the more aggressive (or if you've since grown out of really being into melodic punk in general). I admit I would love it if they did another Leche style record now that their talents are significantly better than they were even then.. but the songwriting is always top notch, at least in my book, and even as a fan of fast punk i don't mind the less aggressive way they've gone. "I guess if some of you like it then you're luckier than I. I'll be over here waiting for the new No Use; they never disappoint." I've heard that there's apparently a Jawbreaker reference or something on this album. Does anybody know what it is? my favorite between-song banter is the.... "Did I say 'fuck AFI'?" "No, not you, fuckin Fozzie Bear over there... wacka wacka wacka" can't stand how this album sounds. I love NoFX. I loved this album. That is all. How many people get pissed off when they go to shows and the the band doesn`t play any old tracks. I love Nofx, they always throw in obscure tracks from ribbed or s&m. One of my favorite times seeing them in the not too distant past they played daze to daze and screaming for change. How awesome is that!? As for the complaint about not evolving/progressing, seriously, if you want that, go listen to Radiohead. The guys in Nofx are all 40, they`ve been playing this style for over 20 years, people love them because they sound like NOFX!!! I`m hoping the whole version of the decline turns up on the vinyl release! Is that the Gunner from MTS? If it is all the shit I talked about him giving up on MTS seems pretty tame compared to his comments about Nofx and Fat Mike. Oh ya, Much the Same should stop posting myspace messages about rando B/S or j ust get back together Im sick of get'em. I'm not pissed, just really disappointed that after looking forward to this record for a while, it turns out to be something I will probably never listen to again (and wanted to skip through on the first listen anyway). I love the dub version of Indifferent Drum and rock version of I, Mevin. They should have used those on Wolves. I nearly shat myself with excitement when I heard the beginning of the Decline at the end of this record. When it faded out I wanted to fucking cry. major let down. the last time i saw nofx they played all of punk in drublic and closed with the decline. can't top that. Not to defend NOFX (god knows I don't care, I mean they're not Against Me!) but with 6 releases since 2002, I don't care if it's original or not that's pretty fast output. Otherwise it's just two records in 5 years and that's still not awful. "Who could be drunk with American beer anyway?" Fuck NOFX, is anyone ever going to review the new Streetlight? FACK! I hope you realize that the "hey look at us, we're drunk and high" attitude is mostly a gimmick, right? While I have no doubt that they drink and do drugs, they're not half as drunk or high as they claim they are, and they just try to please impressionnable punk kids. Who could be drunk with American beer anyway? Even NOFX wouldn't manage it. and even then, half of Wolves were songs from the 7 inch of the month club. while i absolutely loved the 7 inches, it was very disappointing to see a lot of them reappear on the full length NOFX's 6 latest full lengths: what fallingupwards84 just said. yea. conclusion first: "can't even manage to stay sober enough to get the timing right or sing without slurring." wow Gunner is pissed off. its hard for me to believe that NOFX is your favorite band, yet you honestly expected them to put out a greatest-hits live record? How many NOFX shows have you been to? they ALWAYS play obscure short songs, and they never play all the hits. playing drunk and telling jokes between songs is what they do in real live performances, and its part of the reason why i love this band so much. maybe the people complaining should read the album title before they listen to it But the worst, worst, worst, worst thing on the entire album, however, is not the banter. It is that they start to play "The Decline" -- one of the best-ever songs that vaguely resembles punk rock by an American band -- and fade it out after five minutes. They fade it out. The song that proves over everything that NOFX can be genius, and they fucking fade it out. maybe the people complaining should read the album title before they listen to it Were we listening to the same CD? NOFX is arguably my favorite band of all time, but after one listen I can easily say I will never play more than the occasional track from this mess again. First off, about 2/3 of the songs chosen are garbage.. the cheesy 30 second songs that I always hate on their records. And of the few actual great songs they pick, Mike can't even manage to stay sober enough to get the timing right or sing without slurring. I understand that NOFX is a bit schizophrenic in their songwriting, and that my preference is for their serious musicianship that is so talented it makes up for all the goofy garbage they release, but thanks to bad song choices and too much alcohol/drug use, they've managed to churn out their second consecutive pile of garbage. The banter is, in fact, much worse than the average NOFX show (where they're actually funny some of the time) and can be summed up with "heeeey I'm drunk!" I can hear that at any college party in the world, thank you. And yes, the Decline fade-out is the absolute definition of "adding insult to injury" seeing as how that's probably the ONE song every NOFX fan desperately wants to hear played live, and they simply tease us with it. Oh and I'm getting this because I assume it will be funny. that's all I expect. its a fuckin NOFX live album. If you would have told me 10 years ago these dudes would still be around and touring and making albums, I'd laugh. NOFX rule and I love how they're outlasting any trends that try to kill the viability of skate punk.. exhibit a: this page lists 4 extra tracks. gotta be the decline. But it also looks like that pager combines a few of the songs to one track. But it's hard to tell because I've only listened to this in my car and the display face on my CD player is broken so they might be one track anyhow. exhibit a: this page lists 4 extra tracks. gotta be the decline. Also, most live albums tend to serve as a sort of 'best of,' but with lots of mistakes (if they’re honest. If they’re not, they re-dub everything), and a crowd soundtrack. So since they’ve already put one live album out, "They’ve Actually Gotten Worse Live!" is a really a second 'best of. "The sad thing about this album is that it could also serve as a reminder of how little NOFX have changed or experimented with their sound" I think it was Dante who said something along the lines that they've become better musicians over the years yet they care a LOT less. I agree with some of what the reviewer says, however: they played the decline in full last time i saw them. i can actually see why they don't/didn't play it so often cos if you don't know it, it is a really really long song! Yeh well it is NOFX, what would you expect with the whole decline thing, they are obviously going to be wankers haha and thats why we all love them meh "But I would have liked to hear more new stuff, as I think they've written better quality songs their last two albums." the re-workings of "We March to the Beat..." and "Whoops I OD'd" are the best stuff here. and it's nice to hear "Instant Crassic" without it fading out. But I would have liked to hear more new stuff, as I think they've written better quality songs their last two albums. I dunno does it count as a sequel if there is a trilogy? cuz Empire > A New Hope hands down yeah...fuck the fade out. Come on...they know everyone wants the whole thing too... The album sounded great and I like all of their talking between songs, but I wouldn't have put half of those songs on it. |
