Simultaneously Sub Pop's best new finding in years and Oxford, England's answer to Minus the Bear, Foals' Antidotes is an invigorating, complex and catchy debut that delivers on so many fronts your hands are full minutes into the thing.

Score is for this album and Q and Not U. The song "Electric Bloom" really puts me in the mood. Oh my, as soon as I heard this band, I thought, Minus the Bear. Touche! Cassius is a great club song This band reminds me of Snowden a lot. Set Your Foals? this band fuckin rocks, live and on record. But more live I can see the Minus the Bear influences you spoke of, but after listening to the record I was thoroughly annoyed by the vocals, and it's not poppy in the good way, but in the "repeat something 100x and maybe it'll get stuck in their brain" kind of way. The vocals seriously killed this for me. Usually I hate this kinda stuff but for some reason this band have just clicked with me- great stuff! Has anyone heard any of the last.fm contest remixes yet? Bloc Party is basically the perfect analogy here: good influences, good in theory, but boring, poppy, and watered down to the actual ear. Not bad per se, just not distinctive enough to merit attention. i love british bands and i love minus the bear, but i just can't dig these guys. the shit just doesn't work. Well this has piqued my interests... |
