"It's all been done before" Paul McKenzie sings halfway through The Real McKenzies' latest effort, Off the Leash. And though the Vancouver septet has been steadily churning out Scottish Highlands-influenced punk rock since 1992, that doesn't mean the formula is getting stale; adversely, like a dynamite bottle of Scotch, the McKenzies only go down smoother with age.

Big fan of the new album. Loving "Chip" and "The Ballad Of Greyfriars Bobby" Not as great as 10.000 Shots, but this album kicks arse! Great album and catchy as fuck. I enjoy other celtic punk such as The Pogues and DKM, but this is the first McKenzies album I gave a listen, and I am very happy that I did. quite liking this album. I'm guessing that the Real McKenzie's are as Scottish as DKM are irish? Will the Real McKenzie please stand up. Can't wait to hear this. Score is for the review and hopefully for the album as well. These guys can play, especially the bass player. I just got this yesterday and so I haven't listened to it a ton. I have never thought that the Mckenzies created great whole albums, but that each album has about 5-6 really solid songs. I enjoy this one slightly less than 10,000 Shots, but it is still a solid listen. "Chip" and "Old Becomes New" are both catchy as Hell. I am really looking forward to seeing them live again. When I saw them at Thee Parkside awhile ago it was a blast. great album, great review. score is for "pants-shitting riffage" Not expecting too much from this release but it was quite surprising. Not amazing but much tighter than I thought. Plus Sean Sellers on drums is always a plus. sick band, can't wait to hear this. 10,000 shots was musical therapy. I'm still waiting for my copy of this to arrive, can't wait! |
