Punks scam music industry, make movie
Recently, veteran punk band, The Alarm subversively tricked the UK music industry into helping them break a top 30 hit by portraying themselves as a "hip" young band called The Poppyfields. (The band even went so far as to ask friends in The Wayriders to perform in the video in order to maintain the joke.)
The band has now agreed to let friend Sara Sugarman direct a film about how the band duped the UK press. The semi-fictional film will have The Alarm portrayed as a long-defunct 80s band who reunite for a Joe Strummer tribute concert before beginning the scam.
