Jesse Townley (aka Jesse Luscious) doesn't win election, but we love him anyways

The Frisk frontman Jesse Luscious sent us in his thoughts on his recent campaign for Berkeley City Council:

I'm astounded and thankful for the wide support you've given me over the past 6 months of my campaign for Berkeley City Council. You came to fundraiser shows, booked fundraisers, played fundraisers, donated money, and donated time. With your help we walked the entire district and ensured that every voter in our district got at least 2 campaign pieces from our campaign- even though we were operating on a smaller, grassroots budget than the eventual winner.

While we did not win, we made a positive change at the local level. We met each other and our neighbors. We kept attention on important issues like development, public financing, and rent control. We worked as a community for the things we believe in.

Click below for the full statement. The campaign is having one final fundraiser to pay its bills on Saturday November 13th at the Stork Club with Panty Raid, Second Class Citizens, Troublemaker, Retching Red, and Dynamite 8.

To all of you out in the punk/indie/alternative music scenes-

This is the end of this campaign, but it is far from the end of my political involvement in our City's affairs. I hope you will join me in keeping this campaign's issues right in front of the new City Council and the community at large. If you're out of town, then I hope you take this campaign as a symbol of what you and your friends and community can do in your locale.

Congratulations to incoming Councilmember Laurie Capitelli, and good luck to my other opponent, Barbara Gilbert. Here are the results from http://www.acgov.org with 100% of precincts and all of the absentee ballots counted:

LAURIE CAPITELLI 3329 58.3%
BARBARA GILBERT 1503 26.3%
JESSE TOWNLEY 867 15.2%

We have one final blowout of a fundraiser (the only thing that doesn't stop after the final vote is counted are the bills!) on Saturday November 13th . It's at the Stork Club with Panty Raid, Second Class Citizens, Troublemaker, Retching Red, and Dynamite 8, 21+, $5, 9pm.

Thank you all very very much.

Yours, Jesse Townley
