A showing of Ramone and Kostabiâs collaborative paintings will begin on June 1st during regular store hours. This will mark the second time Dee Dee and Paulâs paintings will be shown in Los Angeles. The "12x12x12" show was held at Destroy All Music in Silverlake in March of this year.
After leaving the Ramones in the mid-nineties, Dee Dee has traveled the world, moved to Hollywood, concentrated on his solo music career, published an art and music fanzine called Taking Dope and written a book about the band called Lobotomy: Surviving the Ramones. Painting has opened up a new chapter in his life. Many of his works are based upon his experiences of surviving his life long devotion to punk rock.
Paul has known Dee Dee for over ten years and has been painting and playing music much of his life. His works have appeared in galleries throughout the world. Heâs recorded numerous records with Youth Gone Mad (for LAâs Posh Boy Records) and with the band Psychotica. Heâs illustrated several books, albums and video covers. He currently has some original art on a line of multicultural checks. Paulâs works have been acquired by the Patterson Museum, Guggenheim Museum and the Brooklyn Museum. Kostabi is currently living in New York City.
Dee Dee recently suggested to Paul that they should collaborate on some artwork and the two have been going strong ever since. Ramone and Kostabi have recently collaborated with Mark Kostabi some paintings.
In the book, Chelsea Horror Hotel, Dee Dee and his wife Barbara move into the famous New York City hotel only to find themselves in the room where Sid Vicious stabbed his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. Dee Deeâs colorful neighbors begin to drive him crazy and he becomes tormented by the living and dead demons gathering at the hotel. Sid Vicious, Johnny Thunders and Stiv Bators are joined by the Devil as the spirits of Dee Deeâs friends begin to show up in his dreams.
Dark Delicacies is located in Burbank at 4213 West Burbank Blvd. Their number is 818-556-6660. The paintings will be available for viewing during regular store hours (closed on Monday), after June 1st.
