Music: Stream Bob Marley's "Africa Unites: The Singles Collection"
A stream has been posted of the upcoming Bob Marley release Africa Unites: The Singles Collection. The album commemorates what would have been the artist's 60th birthday this year, collecting his singles from the early days of "Soul Rebel" up to his swan song of "One Love/People Get Ready."
Included on the compilation will be the song "Slogans" which was a demo believed to have been recorded in a Miami bedroom in 1979, found by his sons, and a remix of "Africa Unite" by will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. A complete tracklisting, including commentary by Chris Blackwell, who helped launch Mr. Marley's career with Island Records, can be found here.
Mr. Marley died in 1981 after a battle with brain, lung and stomach cancer. His output has been influential in nearly all forms of music, being covered by Joe Strummer, Johnny Cash, Sepultura, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Eric Clapton and others. Amongst other critical acclaims, his album Exodus was proclaimed in 1999 to be the "Album of the Century" by Time Magazine.
