Pansy Division to release CD+DVD retrospective
Pansy Division are releasing a CD/DVD "best of" compilation for their 15th anniversary. The Essential Pansy Division will consist of a 30 song CD and a 15 song DVD. The album will be released on January 24th on Alternative Tentacles, where they released Total Entertainment their previous full length in 2003.
Of note on the DVD is an X-rated clip that will require the band to have their first warning sticker ever. They will also be making additional video clips not included available on their website. Read More for the tracklisting and album art.
Pansy Division helped establish the growing queercore sub-genre in the Bay Area in the early 90's. The mixture of genre and movement worked to expose the prejudices and injustices against homosexuals in society and often within the punk scene itself. Arguably one of the more successful bands of this anti-prejudicial genre, they were hand-picked by fellow East Bay punks Green Day for a full US tour, spreading the genre and the movement to locales that would have never been exposed. While never achieving the commercial success of the pop-punk trio, this helped spread the growing movement not only around the country, but to Europe, where the genre grew more integrated, adding electronica to it's prior stable of sounds like indie rock, pop punk and hardcore.
