Members of Resident Genius form I Shot Lincoln
Jason Perry and Chris Stroud of Resident Genius have formed a new act dubbed I Shot Lincoln. Perry discusses the project in an interview with the State Journal-Register of Springfield Illious, explaining that "we wanted to do these concept songs about Lincoln's assassination and keep them in an indie or punk-rock context... The point was not to glorify the shooting of the president but maybe to understand it a little better from the point of John Wilkes Booth, taking into consideration he was a theater actor." The band also features guitarist Joe Tury and drummer John Findley, both of metal act Kelp.
I Shot Lincoln will make an appearance at I Hate Your Band Fest this Saturday, January 28th at the Black Sheep Cafe in Springfield. An EP from the group is in the works, but no details on the release have been announced yet.
Resident Genius is on a break after releasing their split with activist historian Howard Zinn. Thick Records released that project, titled You Can't Blow Up a Social Relationship in 2005.
