Dave Wakeling's guitar donated to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

The English Beat's Dave Wakeling has played his Vox Teardrop guitar at every performance for 26 years and now it will be on display along with Kurt Cobain's blue Mustang and guitars from Jimi Hendrix in Cleveland, Ohio. While on their recent Spring tour of the US, the Beat stopped by the Cleveland-located Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to hand it over to assistant museum curator Mededith E. Rutledge.

Lump in my throat, I did play the guitar in the hotel, before leaving for the Hall of Fame. We wrote a song together called "you're cold, but I don't want to leave you"....had a quick sob, part joy, part sadness, then polished the guitar with the tears, and headed out.

I felt worried that I was now deserting my guitar, and I tried to reassure it that it was an honor for us both, and I would still be allowed to play it when I came to Cleveland, if it wasn't on display. I hope it's not sitting there, still waiting for sound check!

Wakeling will still be allowed to play the guitar when at gigs in Cleveland, provided the guitar is not on display.
