AFI plan MTV movie awards, talk about delay between albums

AFI has announced plans to make a TV appearance at the MTV Movie Awards on June 8th, 2006. The band will be debuting their recent single "Miss Murder" on the show. The track comes from the band's upcoming album, Decemberunderground which is due out June 6th, 2006. The TV appearance will be one of the first since the band previously appeared on MTV to pay tribute to The Cure in 2004. That appearance followed the band's MTV2 Award for a video from 2003's Sing The Sorrow Guitarist Jade Puget also spoke with Billboard about the long process to write and record the album:

We didn't take time off. We didn't take vacation. We weren't on a hiatus. We never set out to write a copy of our last record. There's always people that are going to be like, 'Why don't you write something like your last record?' That's just not what we're about. We just felt that we needed to outdo ourselves, and that's the most important driving force, creatively.

To that, Puget, explained, the band wrote more than 100 songs from which they chose the final 12 to appear on the album. The news is the latest in a flurry of activity from the band which has spent the past few months working on the album and will be supporting it with a tour as well as Warped Tour stops this summer.
