Souls on Much
The Bouncing Souls have thrown their support behind Much Music, which has been in Canada for years (and is launching that Loud station) but is now breaking into the US market. Always outspoken in their hatred of MTV, the Souls have made this comment: "MTV has turned music into a standardized system consisting of nothing more that “flavor of the week” acts receive exposure for commercial and monetary purposes, not artistic creativity or ability. We were never willing to be reduced to a “flavor of the week” by MTV. Furthermore, you’ll never see a struggling, up and coming band on a small or independent label get a ton of air-time on that channel. It seems that the amount of time your band is seen on the air is completely relative to the amount of money your label is willing to spend. We never planned to be on MTV and we never will. We knew that if we stuck to our philosophy and kept producing good music for the sake of music, something would come along. Well, that something just might be Much Music.”

The Bouncing Souls have been quite outspoken when it comes to their dislike of MTV. The band has several reasons, both personal and general for their dislike of the all music channel and it’s no secret! The band has openly expressed their disgust of MTV for many years now and swears they will not take part in the channels video rotation. We caught-up with the band via telephone from the Warped Tour in Cleveland, OH Bryan (Bass and Vocals for The Souls) puts it bluntly to say the least: “MTV has gotten to the point that they can now dictate American pop-culture. MTV actually has a say in what’s ‘in’ and what’s ‘out.’ MTV has turned music into a standardized system consisting of nothing more that “flavor of the week” acts that receive exposure for commercial and monetary purposes, not artistic creativity or ability. Well, that something just might be Much Music.” Well, staying true to their dictum The Bouncing Souls have stepped into the alternative of music television: the Much Music channel. This new all-music channel has the same basic premise as MTV, but places emphasis upon the music and the artists, not money and reality-television shows. Much Music seems to be a way-out for those who have produced videos, yet feel that MTV has gone too far in it’s commercialization of music; especially alternative rock music.
