Dr. Frank's book nominated for Quill Book Award
The Quill Book Awards announced their nominees for 2006 today, and Frank Portman's break out bestseller, King Dork scored a nomination in the Young Adult category. Frank Portman is also known as Dr. Frank whose under-appreciated pop punk band started out in the 1980's in the Berkeley scene with labelmates Green Day and Operation Ivy.
Dr. Frank's band, The Mr. T Experience, released over 10 albums and helped to create the now top-ten sound of pop punk. The Mr. T Experience, or MTX, never made it to a big label or arena, but the experiences became the baseline for Portman's debut novel, "King Dork."
The Quills Foundation selects its nominees from booksellers and librarians. There are 19 categories. The winner will be decided by votes cast by the public from August 22 to September 15th.
