CBGB's final week
We've now entered the final week of existence for legendary New York venue CBGB. Here's a reminder on how the schedule of performances shaped up.
Tonight and the following two evenings will see performances by the reunited Bad Brains. The pioneering punk act will be joined tonight by Avail and tomorrow by the Bouncing Souls. The Talking Heads get a tribute show on Thursday, which falls far short of an appearance from the group but acknowledges the club's place in their history. The Dictators will take the stage on Friday and Saturday, the second night joined by Blondie members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein. Finally Sunday will see the doors close following a performance from Patti Smith. The performances will likely be streamed from the CBGB website.
Of course CBGB will relocate to Las Vegas in the near future, but whether that venture captures the spirit of the original remains to be seen. CBGB opened in December of 1973, and was a crucial part of the scene that gave birth to the Ramones, Television, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Blondie, the Talking Heads and many others.
