RIAA misses the point, attacks label/artist sanctioned leaks
Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails have undertaken a remarkably clever publicity campaign for their new album, Year Zero. The group has been leaking the songs using everything from a USB drive in a bathroom to cryptic web site URLs delivered on T-shirts.
The campaign has recieved rave reviews from most, who describe it as "a new form of entertainment." That is, except for the RIAA, which has begun sending out cease-and-desist notices to fans and websites hosting copies of the leaked songs. One source is described as saying:
These f*cking idiots are going after a campaign that the label signed off on,
The entire album is actually streaming online now via the band's official website. One wonders if they too will find themselves on the receiving end of legal threats. The album itself is due out April 17th.
