New Pornographers confirm 'Challengers' details / preview art
In a letter to their mailing list New Pornographers frontman Carl Newman confirmed that the band's upcoming 4th full length will be titled Challengers and will arrive on Matador Records worldwide this summer (likely August), with the exception of Canada. The band's contract with Mint Records ran out following Twin Cinema, and while a new the supergroup has yet to announce their new home they are moving on from the Vancouver indie.
The artwork for the album is being prepared by vocalist Neko Case. You can check out an unfinished version below. The art will be sold as a screen-printed poster at upcoming shows. Each poster will feature an individualized code that the buyer can email to the band in return for a copy of the album when it is released.
Case looks to be on deck for a fall tour in support of the record, but there's no word if Destroyer's Dan Bejar will join them. Both artsts, while contributing to the band's studio work, serve as satellite touring members due to the demands of their own projects.
