The Risley Dales (Rick Omonte - bass)
has a new band that goes by the name of The Risley Dales. No real concrete details on the band's sound but I've been told it's more of a 60's garage band type thing and not ska of any sort. They're playing their first show ever on Saturday, February 16th at Rudy's in New Haven, CT.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (Chris Rhodes - trombone/Mike Pellegrino - guitar/vocals)
After the SHJ breakup, Chris briefly joined Bim Skala Bim before getting the call to join the Bosstones. In fact, he couldn't even be at the final SHJ due to him being on tour with the Bosstones. He's been playing with them ever since. Recently, the band was in need of a new guitar tech/roadie. Mike was called up and is currently touring with them hoping to make it a permanent position. The Bosstones have an odd show coming up. They'll be playing March 8th in the Rosehill Gymnasium at Fordham University's Bronx Campus. They'll also be on this summer's Warped Tour. More details can be found on www.bosstones.com.
Lost City Angels (Ron Ragona guitar/vocals)
Lost City Angels is the band Ron started with members of the Bruisers and the Duckyboys after SHJ's demise. They released two well received demos before losing one of their guitarists. Mike Pellegrino stepped in for some shows, including a spot on several 2001 Warped Tour dates. When it came time to record their debut CD, Mike stepped down and Nick Bacon, from the now defunct Pilfers, stepped in. Their debut CD was produced by ex-Bosstone, Nate Albert and should be out soon. In the meantime, the band has been keeping busy by playing shows with bands such as Social Distortion, The Misfits and the Bosstones. They have two upcoming MA shows. The first is February 23rd in Worcester. The second is on March 2nd in Boston. They follow that up with 3 dates on The Unity Fest tour with Agnostic Front and The Casualties. More details can be found on www.lostcityangels.com.
Reel Big Fish (Tyler Jones - trumpet)
Up until the end of November of 2001, things had been quiet with Tyler. He had been working on putting together a new space jazz project. Before leaving for their November tour, there was little bit of an internal conflict within RBF that led to longtime trumpet player, Tavis Werts, quitting. Tyler checked his voice mail one day and Chris Rhodes was telling him that he needed to call Randy Nichols, the Pilfers manager in regards to a possible gig. This led to him calling RBF's manager who immediately asked him to fill in for Tavis. He flew right out to CA to practice and even got the nod and some help of Tavis himself. Near the end of the tour, Tyler got a call from home saying a family member had taken ill. He rushed home and RBF had to finish the tour without him. Tyler has returned to the band though and will be part of their upcoming tour of Europe! From there, they join up for this summer's Warped Tour. More details can be found on www.reel-big-fish.com.
Avoid One Thing (Dave Karcich - drums)
Dave originally quit SHJ before the breakup. He wound up coming back for a NJ show after that since they had no drummer. It was decided, soon after, that the band was to break up and Dave would play. So he never actually did quit the band. Shortly after, the Pilfers found themselves without a drummer and Dave was offered the spot. He played with them until, they too, split up. Dave played a show with fomer Pilfers bandmates, Carl & Vinny and Mike Pellegrino as Cenzo. They got together, wrote 5 songs, practiced and recordes them all within one week. They topped it off with a show at the Knitting Factory for a World Trade Center Disaster benefit show. As of now, that's been the only show. They did sell copies of their studio recordings but there are not many out there. There are also no definite plans for more shows. So Dave found another new band. Avoid One Thing is the band fronted by Bosstones bass player/singer Joe Gittleman. They're joined by guitarist Paul Delano (Darkbuster, Mung), & guitarist Amy Griffin (Raging Teens). The band will release their debut-self titled album on Side One Dummy, April 9th. The band then begins their first tour, with H20, on February 18th with Warped dates to follow. Less Than Jake (Pete Wasilewski - saxophone)
After the recording of their latest release, Borders and Boundaries, Less Than Jake lost long time sax player, Derron. That's when Pete was brought in. At the time though, there was another Pete in the band. As a result, Pete was renamed JR as in Pete Junior. Since that time, he's toured Europe, Japan and even US stadiums with Bon Jovi. He can often be seen with the band in British music magazines due to their popularity in the UK. The band is getting ready to record their first CD since Pete joined. The band returns to the road at the end of February to tour with Bad Religion and Hot Water Music. They'll play some shows on their own during off days.
