Warped Tour's Kevin Lyman to be recipient of humanitarian award
Kevin Lyman, founder of the Warped Tour will be named the 2009 Humanitarian Award honoree at the Billboard Touring Awards in New York on November 5th. The award is to recognize Lyman's involvement in a range of humanitarian and environmental efforts throughout his time with the tour.
Over the years, Warped has been had recycling efforts in each city, and Lyman has always allowed non-profit organizations free table space, whether its for on day, or for the entire tour. In addition, since the inception of the Warped Tour, 25 cents of every ticket sold has gone to Hollywood Heart, a Los Angeles based non-profit organization for at-risk youth.
Warped has been named Best Independent Blood Drive for 2008 and 2009 for raising more than 70,000 pints of blood each summer. On the environmental front, the tour-funded Warped Eco Initiative includes recycling, a solar stage, the use of biodiesel fuel in all production trucks and buses, and much more.
