Wed. May 5th aka Cinco de Mayo aka Day 1
We're shaking the cobwebs off tonight. We haven't been on tour in a while, 6 months or so to be vague about it. We've been playing pretty regularly in town, but anyone in a band knows there's a big difference between a hometown show and a show on the road. It takes an incredible amount of focus and mental virility to be out of town, with absolutely no responsibilities, and no time in the forseeable future where you actually HAVE to DO anything, and still stay sober enough to read a set list on the ground and form chords on a fretboard. This, for as long this band has been around has been our trap. We like to have fun at all cost. After a few days on the road it becomes easier to ride that booze crest and not fall off on the side of being a full on pie eyed, ham slammed, gin soaked babbling idiot, or worse….sober. Luckily for us, we were too broke to keep the gentlemans lounge stocked before we left.
We get to meet up with our good friends and tour compadres Dirty Tactics tonight. The last tour we did with our brethren from Philly were some of the better times I've had on tour. There were pitchers emptied, bowls blazed, dicks swung, and a hilarious (in retrospect) episode of unacceptable urination in a very respected recording studio (hope the smell or stain didn't offend any of the alkaline trio folks, we're still sorry metallison)
So anyway, this journal entry isn't very exciting, since we're still about two hours from the first show of this particular journey, I hope it can at least stand as an introduction to a trip that will be at times stellar, at other times a complete shit show, and hopefully sometimes both at once.
If you're planning on attending any of these shows, I urge you to bring your friends, a camera, a koozie, and some substances with possible mind altering abilities (hey if it were you, we'd share) and come check out some tunes. I promise you'll have a time. We'll be doing all we can to put all we have out there for you.
Day 2
Hey its 7:30am and I'm awake for some ungodly reason. It always takes me a couple days to adjust to being a slacker and being able to sleep in, which is of course a lot easier than having to adjust back to the schedule of a non-slacker after tour.
The show at 222 Ormsby in Pittsburgh was a ton of fun, Dirty Tactics and Incommunicado both killed it, kids were stoked. The dudes from Incommunicado made us margaritas for the holiday which was sweet of them. Spent the night at our friend Tom from Playoff Beard's house, he's an exquisite host and kept us lubed up with drugs and alcohol all night, and that's on top of the endless bowls of his famous "fiesta mac'n'cheese".
Pretty soon the rest of the guys will be waking up bleary eyed and we can hop back into our steel box of a home and drive north to Syracuse, which has always been a great town for us. We've got some brand new songs in the set that luckily for us have been going over quite well, so far they're keepers
Hope to see you out at a show, and don't forget the lsd.
