Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:
Q:
Why do fans feel personally attacked when a band does something they don't agree with? (not counting when Tom Gabel started whining on Twitter. That was upsetting to everyone)
A:
I can't speak for everyone, but I know my theory (and one Aubin voiced recently on the punknews podcast, as well), is that kids develop a personal connection to smaller bands. Particularly one with perhaps more radical politics. These are bands that are more than just music, they're people and beliefs that some listeners connect with. Therefore, they feel that much more betrayed when a band does something that the listener feels the band shouldn't (or wouldn't) do. It's some very deep and psychological stuff...man. -Rich
