Sunday Edition: January 16, 2011
Hello everyone and welcome to Navel Gazing: your look back in the week in Punknews. I'm Bryne Yancey and I'll be your guide through some of the juiciest, most popular and otherwise noteworthy stories from the last seven days. Remember, every Punknews story is built from tips from our wonderful, good-looking readers, so get to submitting. Here's what got the strange, slow and old community talking this week:
- Your Favorite Records from 2010, as voted on the Punknews readers, were revealed. The Gaslight Anthem's American Slang tops the list.
- A pair of completely unrelated ska stories made waves this week, with news that Scott Klopfenstein was leaving Reel Big Fish and that Mighty Mighty Bosstones frontman being detained by Los Angeles police for having scary tattoos.
- Against Me! performed on the Nervous Energies Sessions, which created a ton of positive buzz for new drummer Jay Weinberg.
- Social Distortion provoked an interesting debate with the stream of their new album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes.
- More bands were added to Warped 2011, including Simple Plan, The Aggrolites and SHARKS.
- Rise Against revealed some initial details about their upcoming sixth album, Endgame.
With that, we hand over this Sunday evening to the Punknews community, where anything is possible, from the next amusing-then-overwrought meme, to the creation of bands and message boards, to alienating sports chatter. So talk amongst yourselves and we'll see you Monday morning.
