Q: Most would agree that taste is subjective. But, is there some universal bar that determines that some art is inherently "better" than other art? For example, is the kidz bop version of "tumblin dice" worse than the Stones version across all metrics?

A: I think most people would agree that (with notable exceptions) that all replicas are inferior to the original. In terms of "objective art" I think you're never going to get a single, objective metric for "good" or "bad". Besides people's personal tastes (I mean Kidz Bop sells for a reason), you have to consider that unless you know all the details of a particular art (including the artists motivation for creating it, their intent and so forth) you can't fully dismiss it.
That isn't to say I haven't done that before (Sorry Nickelback), but I also don't think that's the best approach.
