Arcade Fire win 2011 Polaris Prize

On the heels of a year which included a Best Album Grammy, a Juno award, and a Brit Award, Arcade Fire has also won the 2011 Polaris Prize for their album, The Suburbs released in 2010. For those unfamiliar with the prize - which was won by Fucked Up in 2009, it is a Canadian award modeled after the UK's Mercury Prize and is based purely on the opinions of jurors and not record sales.

The jury list is comprised of more than 2000 journalists, bloggers and broadcasters and those selected for the jury cannot have any financial ties to any band or label. The award was established in 2006 with a C$20,000 cash prize (which Fucked Up used to record a "Do They Know It's Christmas? remake.) In 2011, the award was increased to $30,000.

Our user-contributed review of the album gave the album 4.5/5 stars. It was released on Merge Records.
