Detroit Lions fans mount campaign against Nickelback

A disgruntled Detroit Lions fan has begun a campaign to have the NFL side alter their music policy, as the televised "Thanksgiving Classic" game is due to feature a performance by Canadian act Nickelback between the second and third quarters.

The fan, quoted on MSN Entertainment, had this to say:

"This game is nationally televised, do we really want the rest of the U.S. to associate Detroit with Nickelback? Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!?!?! Does anyone even like Nickelback? Is this some sort of ploy to get people to leave their seats during halftime to spend money on alcoholic beverages and concessions? This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs. The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime."

At the time of writing, said petition has over 30,000 signatures.

Punknews.org humbly proposes the following bands from Michigan as alternatives: Negative Approach, La Dispute, Suicide Machines, The Swellers, Small Brown Bike and a one-off reunion show from The White Stripes. Also, any of these will do.
