The Clash's Paul Simonon stows away secretly on Greenpeace boat, arrested
Legendary The Clash bassist and member of The Good, the Bad and the Queen Paul Simonon was revealed to have gone undercover on a Greenpeace boat earlier this year during its campaign against Arctic oil drilling. While on the ship, named the Esperanza, Paul was known only as "Paul the assistant cook".
He was one of a team of 18 activists who demanded to see an oil company's oil spill response plan and were eventually arrested by Greenland police and thrown into jail for two weeks. During their imprisonment, Paul continued to act as cook for his fellow activists and inmates. The artist and basist also makes excellent vegetarian food, according to one of his fellows.
